letter to spring
letter to spring / michael kwack
in a wind
there's a scent of spring
i've passed the winter away
in a far place alone
but only hours of emptiness
and got to write letters now
the last confessions
to me and others
then to meet the spring
in complete quietness

THERE IS A WIND
The wind in the trees the sound of what it like to be free
The cry of a newborn son is the beginning of love
Where is that mountain top where Martin saw the dream
Where is that path to the valley of peace
Where is that message of hope hidden from me
The wind on the water pushing the waves of the past
The cry of dignity echoing through these monuments and memorials

From the Garden of Afternoon
Leisurely and alone,
I was wandering in a palace garden.
Flowers were completely gone,
But deep green
Summer leaves were fully grown,
And on each branch
Small birds were all the way chirping:
Seemingly for me a perfect afternoon
To be lost in poem-reciting!
Suddenly a wind arose,
When a human voice came to my ear,
Saying low yet rather vivid:
It's...

The Poor Little Dove
The Poor Little Dove
To watch the wind play with the wave,
I sat on a bench by the museum garden pond.
Then a small pigeon came flying,
Landing to her feet, tiny and cute,
And stared up at me, a bit intensely,
Only blinking her eyes, with no other move.
She looked like a baby as a camera model,
Getting me to recall my infanthood picture.
I took s...

Blow wind blow
Strong powerful it hit the shores, sea waves crashed over sea walls
Powerful determined to be free. Death total rising trees falling.
Thunder lightening flashing the sky. Tin cans and dust bins pass by.
This storm out to destroy everything in its path and beyond tonight.
Rain lashing down, drains can't take this water, we have floods now
Its worse than a monsoon feels like a TV f...

Moments
Do you ever want to
hold on to a moment
because it feels divine?
A moment when the stars align,
and everything is fine.
A moment when you make peace
with your past, and your pain.
A moment when there is
no sorrow, no shame.
A moment when fear
takes a hike.
A moment when the sky is clear,
the air is forgiving,
and sun shines bright.
A moment when everything
feel...

The Sterling Castle, 1703
The sands move
brushed by moray tale
shivered in clouds
by a sole's shy shift
the currents stir
shaking silt
to mist the sea
to settle -
moving time
over an old log reel,
clearing the centuries
discovering old timbers:
dead ribs
reaching up to past waves
offering their history
to the naked shipworms.
As the crabs scuttle to explore
as stars cree...

Whispering wind
Soft swathes of September wind
stroke my welcoming skin,
its warm touch offers solace
to my stationary form.
A slow slight cadence
and a flighty rhythm,
this wind it soothes me.
Eyes closed shut so tightly
that sleep begins its
slow inward stroll
to silently steal my waking world,
and deliver me to the dream domain
where the calming wind
continues to hold me ...

Summer Seascape
In the sun's mid-day heat
I see the tall field grasses flow, swell
and come towards me in waves
surging before the day's wind
the seed-head spume constantly bowing
seems to fall on the field strand where I stand.
The rhythmic onslaught of the waves
continues through the long afternoon -
a tide of wind-driven swells and rollers
always flowing to my feet, w...

Against Wind
Make it easy. Do it simple.
Just pray for God, to bless.
Love colleagues, & friends.
Surely, you gain a higher success,
Do it now, don't delay it.
Do it again, day by day.
Get that job, reach the top.
Not impossible, just try.
Do advise, every friend.
Shiny future, comes at end.
Do your best. Now, get rid.
Of any weakness, at any wind.

The Wind Is Howling
In the grate, the shivering flames
hungrily wrap their lips around logs
The boards above me creek
my wife haunting somewhere
the baby's hands reach out
wave before its sleeping eyes
The wind is howling...
The smiles on our faces as we galloped down the aisle
making sense of scattered photograph moments
but I can't remember why
can't think of anything but waiting
and doing everything...

Storm Watcher
He watched the leaves float
in the pond
windmoving on the surface
drop-pitted by rain,
leaves, orange-brown against the black depths
He watched the leaves stick
to the patio
wetgluing to the slate
slickened by the storm,
leaves, orange-brown against the black stone
He watched the leaves move
on the trees
wildwaving off the branches
leafstripped by t...

The Romulus Triangle
My frustration never ends
It butts in like a question
And Tuesdays are so blind
To my hopeless, heedless mind
I want to fall
Into your endless, open
Wall of discomfort
Front seat never looked inviting
But I enjoyed the thought
Of sitting there anyway
I don't want to stand in front
I wanna catch it on fire
From below
There's no show I want to see
Or be I j...

Wind Dance
Sycamore leaves dance
In only the lightest breeze
They never turn askance
Like leaves on other trees
Sycamore leaves flair
Within their perfect ballet
In just the lightest air
Blowing up the valley

Maria Dominica
Verse 1
The wild winds tear out in the night
As Maria rips the roofs off with all of her might.
Destroying everything she can
Till the people cry out in vain and fright
The rain, then mud it falls and falls
I cannot clear the image out
Chorus
Gonna take a lot to keep me away from there
There's a lot that 100 men can do
Gonna take some time to make it right again.

Solitude
Solitude
Autumn solitude
in a world of two colours
the rush of the wind.

Autumn
And then, suddenly, it was calm - the morning wind which threw
rain hard against the window panes and sent beech leaves rushing
across the grass to pile gold-brown against all that the borders grew,
all slowly dulling their greens to wet, muted browns, brushing
the soil as their leaves curl and droop - vibrant Spring-strength gone,
fading sadly.
The wind ...

Candlelit Cigarette
All these new things,
Happening.
Time passes through me like a breeze -
But the hours feel like eternity.
These cigarettes hurt me,
But I can still breathe -
My heart skipping beats -
Occasionally.

A Message to the New Government
The nation needs renewables now!
The nation needs renewables now!
As Once-great Britain takes a bow
and we leave the stage of the European Union,
the quintessential issue's the quandary how
we accommodate the suck of an economy consuming
two thousand million megawatt hours
of climate wrecking energy by the year
when there's finite reserves of fossil fuel power.
I spurn the allegation ...

Into The Wilderness
Into the Wilderness
Into the wilderness we went. Edhweirft and Hwyrflung swirled above us, blowing and bustling through the treetops. Watching. Threatening. But maintaining a safe distance as the trees protected us

STORM FRONT
Away in the distance on a cold dreary night,
the horizon is lit by flickering lights.
Storm clouds as black as the darkest heart
and lightning tears the very air apart.
A grumbling mass of swirling bile,
the silence, the earth, the night to defile.
Like distant portents of desolate doom,
sorry shadows of a dusk too soon.
The dull silhouette of the thunderheads mas...

FOAMING FURY
FOAMING FURY
Against a backdrop of broiling grey
The dancing colours flap & wave away
To all who can see and for all left to be
A warning about the worsening sea
A relentless outburst of desperate cries
Fighting the force of the cloudy sighs
And the seas whip up a daring wager
To all who seek the thrill of danger
Teasing and testing the brave and bold
Icy waves, so strong and co...

Cromer
the sea is rattling bones today
and the wind holds my ears to ransom
for want of a scarf and a hat
she is walking on the promenade
and wants no part of the play
so I am talking to the man on the pier
with the rods and ask
“what’s your game?“
whiting
and if he’s lucky

Across the sea
The wind that blows
in a breath of time
has no borders,
as it sings new ways
like flickering waves
across the sea.

Stay Positive
The hand reached into the pocket and pulled out lint. Expecting the worst, the lint was a better gift than anticipated. A cop asked me if there are any sharp objects she should know about, I say, "no", knowing that I have dirty tricks up my sleeve. I am arrested. It could always have been worse. So could I. But here I am. Jail Cell. Alone. No friends close. No bail. Alone. Surrounded by humans ...

Our Home Cannot Be Here
I lit a fire on the beach
Just as you were feeling beaten by the wind
We can't hear anything in this weather
But the waves and the crackling wood
You don't speak anyway
We have nothing we care to say
Our human silences amid nature's screams
Fill me with a loss so unforgettable
Our human silences amid nature's screams
Fill me with a void so inescapable
The sky goes dark and the sea slides...
