Autumn
Autumn nips at my door
another year begins to come undone
Somehow, the change of light
sends my compass spinning
I question where I am
One anchor torn
while others persist
but where to next...
Autumn brings a tenderness
to the boundary of all I feel
Somehow, this drop in temperature
sends me reeling
I trace the path of how I got here
Quietly lost and searching
in a moment of shif...

Melancholics of the monsoon
Melancholic of the monsoon
Sluggish mornings,
Smell of fungus
in my slippery doorsteps,
Elongated bedtimes,
Slacking routines,
Hearing nothing ;but symphonies,
4 walls, headphones as my roomies,
Safeguarding books
And Reading them to cats
To which they nods,
But silence alone growls.
Instant noodles,
And concurrent doodles;
Fills stomach and minds.

Connected
In the noise of the city,
where faces merge with cold screens,
we live in an era of empty echoes
and weary of shouting into the void.
The streets are labyrinths of concrete and glass,
distorted reflections of fragmented dreams,
and advertisements blink like empty promises,
poisoning the mind with unfulfilled desires.
We live in an era of illusory connection,
where smiles are posted an...

Timeless Torment
In the blackest of your moments, wait with no fear
Why do I feel your words and presence, so close and so near?
Are we doing this again, communicating through signs?
How is this even possible, when I am no longer yours, and you are no longer mine?
It’s been six months, when will this end?
I can still feel you, this connection won’t seem to bend
If we were not soulmates, then ...

Marooned again
The sun leaks out of the grey cloud ceiling spilling all over my body. Golden light bathes my cells.
Blanketed by solar rays I gain a new perspective on my surroundings; colours are deeper, fruit ripe. The world beyond my front door suddenly separated only be a wooden plank.
But as quickly as it came, the curtains above me shut with swift determination. Once again my perspective shifts.

Enough
Michelangelo said the work of art awaited him beneath the slab of marble, merely for him to uncover it. In my own small way I understand that as I write these days. The poem I know is possible waits patiently at the other side across a murky divide and with luck and patience maybe I can reach it, reveal it.
Here is one I wrote about a barbecue years ago in the small town where I lived.

Rain.
Rain.
I don't like your colour,
Can't hear your noise
Anymore.
You cover streets in winter,
Keep my heart there,
In grey lands.
Let rivers overflow
And my heart sinking
Into colourless melancholy.
I want to be
At a sunny place.
I want to feel the golden light
And warmth on my skin.

Madness
Don’t give in to the madness.
Save it for another day,
long after you’ve left this life
that’s full of opportunities.
Life is like the weather.
All you have to do is wait
for the rain to go away,
the storm to pass,
and enjoy the sunshine
in between.

Melancholy
Melancholy
When I am hit by the whip of melancholy
It makes me forget how to be jolly
It brings on great impatience and agitation
With anxiety and huge frustration.
Often it can really get too much,
And on my sanity I strive to clutch.
Sometimes I might even find it hard to think,
And from thought to thought I cannot link.
I cannot get my mind in gear,
And all around me I may not s...

Alien
‘At least your skin isn’t black’ as if that changes anything or makes it better.
I am still as foreign with my white skin. With my ‘funny sounding’ language,
in a country where people don’t understand the concept of knowing
different languages, where they know no other, except for their own.
One. And only.
Where I can’t spe...

Ice Skating In New Orleans
My older sister, several other girls
met on the concrete square in our backyard
to test the sheet of ice that wouldn't melt
in rare moments of a "real" winter
in a New Orleans suburb. In 1994,
they were only in junior high
but seemed so grown up when I was five
and watched how easy it was for them to teach
me how to slide over the slipperiness

Beautiful Melanchony
Beautiful Melancholy
The sky is grey and the rain won´t stop falling
I´m alone at home " and no one is calling
Haven´t slept for days, always staying up till the morning
Am I tired? No, cause my coffee is calming
I´m drowning in sorrow/
Always thinking `bout tomorrow
Feeling kind of blue/
Every time I think about you/
But I still keep going and I som...

But For The Dripping
In his life,
Joyous events
Have been like small drops of water
Dripping into a bound persons mouth
Barley keeping them alive.
Whom,
While being further tortured
By common experiences and lackluster events,
Wishing only to die,
Cannot
For the dripping...

Raaz
by : Mirza Sharafat Hussain
Tere janey ke baad hawayein beyqaraar
Khushk aabshar , fizayein sogwaar
To suno meri udaas aankhon ka raaz
Kisi ki yadun me meri aahein girftaar
Ye itna parayapan achanak na guzrey
Tere paas aate hi bahein sharamsaar
Rotey kuch mei ne bhi mangha hai rab se
Pyase labu se meri duayein ashkbaar

mujhe kya , har cheez me tera ghar lagta hai
wo sama , teri ghali ka wo manzar lagta hai
pawu zameen pa rakh ke samandar lagta hai
teri muhabbat ka asar is qadar lagta hai
Sulagti huwi aagh pa mujhe chalney do rafiq
Har qadam pa maloom uska reh guzar lagta hai

now invisible are walls of separation, and thy grief

A Time When I Wasn't
A wistful vagueness presides over my aura
The night was clearer than ever
Now wasn’t the time,
Now I was headed to a service sublime
But do I regret these impressions viewed from my window?
Never
This ‘ere song from a vintage past
It crooned of simpler days,
It blasted my hopes into the freezing air
Carried me back to a time that wasn’t there
And I couldn’t help ...

The Dilemma
To be or not to be is the question,
Tired I am of desire deprivation.
Seldom doth the flower bloom,
Drowning down in wordly gloom.
I had the ambition, I had a dream,
Pursue talents with certain gleam.
Alas ! These wishes didn’t last so long,
With power came responsibility along.
Life indeed is not a bed of roses,
Burdens and hurdles society imposes.

The Parenthesized
Your green eyes are shining in the night of my mind
Thoughts are fading away with the dawn of your smile
Words are sailing away, papers are turning back to trees
And God is lighting his cigarette with thunder while scribbling my fate
God is a poet, I think and his words are people
But I'm parenthesized, that's why you can't read me
Stuck in arrogant sentences or thrown to the end
That's t...

When You Smile
When you smile,
Minutes lose all of their seriousness,
Suddenly, it starts to run on your cheekbones
As kids who are wearing the cardigans of innocence
And they quit counting the flow of life,
While your lips edges are getting close to your dimples.
When you smile,
-Especially when your eyes come along with that smile-
And when the laughs open it's wings with all of it's prettiness
Word...

A Soul In The Clock
A Soul In The Clock
-for the ones whose pillow is the moon-
Just the ones who are wearing the night
On themselves and walking on the stars,
Filling the empty streets with thoughts,
And who are sitting alone in their houses,
Breeding the clouds and turning to a breeze,
And just the ones who are missing their
Losted sun but not looking for it,
Shining in their mind b...

Today I know that you've gone
Submerged in silence,
under shadows;
named you in a seemingly endless vacuity
As if he were listening!
As if he felt it!
Despite my lips you've gone astray,
let me tell you the hours that I've thought of you,
like a dream that has become ponderous
You stand out and anxiety takes my soul;
what need of your memories
if my fingers thr...
