Joyous events

Have been like small drops of water

Dripping into a bound persons mouth

Barley keeping them alive.

 

Whom,

While being further tortured

By common experiences and lackluster events,

Wishing only to die,

Cannot

For the dripping...

Thanks for the comments.
It was inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" and the start of Eloisa to Abelard” by Alexander Pope - "In these deep solitudes and awful cells,
Where heav'nly-pensive contemplation dwells,
And ever-musing melancholy reigns;..."

The line "ever-musing melancholy" being the more influential of all.

This seems to me to be a deft and simple way to evoke the invisible walls that surround those who suffer from Depression, one of mankind's many scourges.
