Very enjoyable afternoon Greg and the perfect captive audience. WoL acquitted itself very well in the company of
those avid historians.Really had a good couple of days and in fact followed the 'milestone way' from Long Compton to Stratford clocking all six mileposts on Sunday. A genuine I Spy experience.

excellent poem Lan which for me has echoes of Roger McGough which is all good and ticks my boxes.

I'm sure Cynthia won't mind me disagreeing with her but I rather like the 'naked' in the last line - when read slowly, the repeated n's and a's have a somewhat melodic and soporific feel as if the reader is being drawn down into that very same 'nape'. If that makes sense?

well I did wonder Martin and I did also look on Google maps but there were quite a number of Southdown Roads. The name is particularly synonymous with Sussex especially the buses of course. But Portslade / Mile Oak were always just outside of my territory which seemed to end at Kingston Lane where I went to school at KM. And yes, it's all still very recognisable but a lot more congested and crowded. I like the poem even more now! Cheers, Col.

Thanks Colin, Patricia, David and Desmond for reading and liking. This is a piece of my childhood and what I remembered of it. I am not sure if you might know this road Col. It is in Portslade just up from the village. The road itself hasn't changed much in the last fifty something odd years, but there has been a lot more house building in the area.
