Hi Dave, Great story. Now... comeon this can't possibly be true?! can it? You can tell me over a pint on a WOL night soon. This vivid dilema stories reminded me of one by Roger McGough - Funicular Railway. Winston

Hi Emily, Really liked this one. I live on a canal boat and so could really apreciate the scene you paint. Actually narrowboats don't bob. A fishing boat may bob but a canal boat sways, which you may like better. Win x

...howdo steve..many thanks for the comments on 'my father'..it was written in couplets, all ending on different words to those seen here. I'd copied it from 'word' and every time I tried to paste it into the 'blog' area the lines came out 'double spaced', in the end I moved all the lines about until they were more compact, pressed all the buttons and it suddenly 'pasted' in as you see it..so I left it alone !!..nevertheless it was very astute of you to realise it doesn't look right....I will take in your ideas, not having aired my poems much until now...thanks...chris.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your comment on my poem. I love 'Warning', and if I have to get old, that's definitely the way to do it!

I have just read 'Peacock Dreams' and love it. It perfectly captures the monotony of everyday life, and the need for escapism.

..hello Gus...or is it Sherlock ?...a few years ago I spent time researching the family tree and came across gr.gr.gr. grandparents who came from Cork and settled in Kelsall in 1835..the more I found out, the more poems I began to write about them, in this extract they're ghosts. Is writing style in the 'genes' do you think...very odd...although I'm pleased you spotted something. (I was born in Lytham)...cheers.. chris...(if you click on 'myspace' link at the top the first song 'Rosanna' is about them).

Hi Winston,
'spragged to the floor' means to stretch the fabric to its limits and pin it down.

Sprags in real terms are the metal hooks used to pin tents to the ground for anchorage.
Thowt tha wud 'ave known that, you bein' a Yorkshire lad 'n all. :-)

Thank You so much Winston for your in depth critique of my poem 'Love Me'.

I am amazed how long it takes me to write poetry by comparison to some other poets on this site, they seem to be so prolific... it's very intimidating ...one after the other.. but I hope to have another ready soon. Meanwhile many thanks once again.

too many images conjured to comment individually as like the whole thing - very much like

Hi winston,

thank you for taking the time to respond to my work. I really value the feedback i recieve as it helps me progress and learn more. The collages of poems i am currently writing are from my own experiences, and the imagery is from my lens. I really likes the comment you made about your daughter. Yep, when i was a soldier i was single, but getting letters from ones loved ones meant so much. In the Gulf, mail was irregular at first. we were lucky if we recieved one mail run by the RAF a week. Nevertheless, some soldiers took advantage of the SATCOM kit, and phoned their wives and girlfriends and spoke with their children, they would hide it, but they would often be tearful but glad of the contact. It is extemely difficult being a soldier, and even more difficult is making the transition to civilian street afterwards. Even now, at the age of 42, i am still writing letters that i will never send, to the military asking for my old job back.

be well blue

mike

Hi Mike,
this series of ''open'' has a lot of hidden depth but is also filled with the ignorance that comes with closing the mind, heart and eyes to what's happening in the world.
The same can be said for much of what goes on in this country too, which is most likely the reason for the state of it at present.

We have the right to vote but do we have the right to say with true freedom of speech what we really think without upsetting someone or rocking the boat.

I might have gone off track a little here but that's the effect your work has on me. It makes me think about the bigger issues.
Trouble is, the bigger issues all start with something small and grow out of proportion so perhaps that is the way we need to deal with making it better, by starting to do something positive in a small way and help it grow.

very thought provoking as lame as a comment that sounds. But i mean that as a bulky comment.
