Thank you Ferris Colin Stu Ray and Lynn For reading and your comments . Also thanks to Kim for liking.
I wrote this after snatching a few days away with my wife in Anglesey in July. The weather was far from perfect as in the case of British summers, but it was time away from people and expectations and all the associated stuff that goes with that, so I don't particularly care about the weather.
I know what you mean about the violins section Ray. I don't always understand what I write sometimes, But it seemed to fit.
Thanks once again to you all for reading this and your encouragement
much appreciated
Martin

I like the tag as much as the poem Nigel. I remember getting a split lip on the dodgems with my dad as a young kid not properly strapped in. I was always wary after that.

I still believe in gradual evolvement toward a "United Utopia" at least it would be less comfortable for the jackals.

welcome to WoL DW. Your three poems presented here seem connected with an obvious back story which makes for intriguing reading. In a way you don't need to tell us further personal details as the mystery is what makes them all the more compelling. All the best, Colin.

once again, and at the risk of repeating myself, I have to say your poems often take me back to a time and place, often in my youth when I was discovering so much about life, people, the world around me. I am now sitting in a particular bedroom in Brighton remembering a past love. Thanks Tom, but best not linger there too long!
Col.

INFANT WOMEN

Loves kiss
breathed life to you
flesh bone skin and hair
Myself, partly reflected before my eyes
To nurture, nourish, cherish, rise
Doting, protecting, guardian I
Guiding, gentley shunting you along
Playground laughter in my ears
Handstands, skiping, toss-overs you at play
Godly perfection, happiness unbound
Glory unspent, carfree with a glow
Innocent as yet, as yet
Has to learn to know

Wow... This is really good though... I can really relate to it...
Love this part...
"You're playing games

but you arent bothered by fame,

and as you dance in the flames

they cant understand the games you play.

Some nights you dance alone at night

with tears in your eyes,

no music playing

trying to keep your demons at bay

trying to understand what the voices in your head say"

Nice one Martin. I had to read the section of unrehearsed violins a few times then it dropped neatly into place. A clever comparison indeed. I Imagine this being expressed by a celebrity in private moments away from the rapacious public.

Magic distilled in words Tom. The languid picture you seem to portray is instinctive and lovely. I find the lines "long vanished from a thousand exposures" reminding me of an old film negative as you look up to the light seeing just shadows.

In our journey through this life, we have to make choices.
We are "all things to all men" - ceaselessly adjusting our
attitudes and behaviour to meet the occasion and its
perceived demands. Lying can be socially acceptable if
it spares someone unnecessary pain (as long as the law is not abused), and we have the luxury as human beings
- with even a modicum of intelligence - to know when
that is the case.

Ken - thanks for your message to my site page.
We agree to differ about the perceived benefits to the
UK of membership of the EU.
It is fine to dream of a Utopian world when, like lambs,
we lie down together. The jackals that come with each generation always seem to spoil the peace party and present a problem...witness the posturings and threats of the leader of North Korea.
Each has to be faced by the existing generation and
there's no easy solution, as our forebears have found.
We should always hope for the best and prepare for the
worst. Or - as WSC observed: Better jaw-jaw than war-war. But tragically, there are those who aren't
listening.
By the way, I enjoyed your site poem about age. Much to ponder and agree with!
Cheers.
MC

well done on POTW Adrian. It has been a genuine pleasure to read your poems since you joined WoL a few months back. I am sure there are many of us here and elsewhere who can relate in some degree to what you experience on a personal level. Writing is indeed a great helper and healer. Never give it up, it's a great journey to be on whatever else happens in life. All the very best, Colin.
