Thanks for commenting Nigel

But, as I have never stayed successful in love, and quite often never even begun successfully, let alone stayed that way.. well, because of all that I get to the point where I have to assume a few conclusions (that I'd rather not type, at least, not in prose).

A poem of remorse and sadness with a vow to do better with the next generation. This poem is a reminder that there is always room for improvement especially in the quality of family relationships.

Standing at the grave of a loved one is an opportunity to meditate, to examine one's life in regard to the deceased. The question asked is "could I have done better in those circumstances"? Forgiveness might come to mind. Memories that can teach us.

A good poem, one for personal recollection
Thank you for this

Keith

Good one, Greg, but, as you say, very typically Lib-Dem. From Orpington onwards, spectacular by-election wins have turned out to be false dawns or no dawns at all.

I love High-Speed trains, but HS2 seems to have touched a deeply sceptical nerve in England. I wonder what it is?

Thanks for your comments, Brian and Graham. From the Guardian today: "The Lib Dems’ vigorous campaigning against the local impact of HS2 – a project the party supports nationally – resonated." A typical Lib Dem position! But the theory that many Labour supporters voted tactically is very interesting, too.

Greg you are spot on. TV folk will pore over the result but it looks like a massive protest vote because of HS2...which will probably be reversed next time.

Thank you for commenting Nigel and Moon.girl

There's always the potential for losses to be turned into gains, not always of the same thing that was lost, and only with the right attitude and actions. I'm not sure whether things that happen are meant to have happened or not, but either way it doesn't stop us trying our best (unless it was meant to). I like the image of ashes being washed and swept away by the ocean.

There's a lot of word and concept play in this poem, even starting with the first word, misplaced, which can mean lost or can mean put in the wrong place, and here means both.

Thank you for your comment Nigel

Colours do often return, sometimes soon, but the type that doesn't fade to grey can be quite difficult to find, and there's no easy way to know how long a colour might take to fade... whether it be someone else's or our own... But your comment reminds me in particular of another poem, one that was posted in the meditations, 'Surrounded By Love', and one that will also be referenced later in Love's Tempest too .. but here's an early extra peek at it .. It talks about the arrival of colours that haven't faded yet.. I can't say that they never will.

Sometimes what we lose isn't a loss, its a gain.

What is lost was meant to be lost.....and that leads another journey.

Pick up the ashes and let them in the oceans travel deep, far wide and away forever.

There's always the second side of the coin.

Just my opposite thoughts that arise while reading your poem.

Well penned?

Thank you Stephen G and Stephen A for your comments

I guess my poetic soul must finally be grateful for my short stature then, all those trousers and dresses that had to be shortened to fit made hems an accessible concept for my poetic use

Speaking of beautiful colours, some years ago I moved into rented accommodation, a 2nd/3rd floor maisonette, and since then I've been able to enjoy some beautiful sunsets and cloudscapes - I feel as if I am not just renting the flat but also the sky too.

And yes, youth, been there, done that.
