Teapot

What to do with the silver plated teapot?

A battered Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll survivor,

its etchings oxidised and pocked with milk spots.

I’ve checked eBay - be blessed if it fetched a fiver.

I leaf Mum’s wedding photos, thumbed and musted.

Here’s her and Dad - their faces, split with pleasure,

are mirrored in this gift’s felicitous lustre

as if they’ve just unwrapped some genie’...

Wedding Dress

With wedding season truly upon us the search is on for new wedding entertainment ideas.

One of the recent discoveries was this idea to invite guests to record their thoughts through poetry..enjoy

Whose wedding dress is that? I think I know.
Its owner is quite happy though.
Full of joy like a vivid rainbow,
I watch her laugh. I cry hello.

She gives her wedding dress a shake,
And laughs...

Fairytale - For V & K

An entrance to a fairytale waiting to happen,

Sweet scented flowers, second only to the story that's about to bloom,

Flickering candles mimicking twinking stars in the dark sky,

Like the love that survived through thick and thin, dark and light...

A slow stepped waltz, opening to a dance of a lifetime,

followed by a ballad about a love that grew from childhood

and an eternal...

Confetti

Weddings evoked grief

For someone like Walter

With memories of being

Left stranded at the altar

Still dreaming of the one

Who shafted him badly

He'd wake up screaming

Bandy legs kicking madly

One dream, of making love

To an Amazon stunner

Got to the tipping point

But she'd done a runner

He sought a therapist

A woman of renown

Arson took her ...

Chalk-White Moonlight

An Arctic air
pushes past the cracking door
as we step out
into the newly forming night
with many friendly cheers
chasing us from the hall
The searing wind
grabs you by the ears
seconds abroad
and your bones will know the chill
in the chalk-white light
of this moon

Snow falls slowly
first on the cliffs above the lane
then these cobbles are scribbled out
under a virgin whiteness
...

wedding guest hats ..the truth

my hat fell off one day

my head stayed on and so did my hair

heads are designed not to fall off

hats are made for heads

hats fall off

some fall off

wedding guest hats are not secure

they flatten hair styles

the wind might decide to be cruel that day

is this a risk you are willing to take?

no one wants to lose a wedding hat

no one wants hat hair

my advice if you...

In the pale moonglow

In the pale moonglow when I awoke

somehow shadows seemed the darker

as mantling the land, that soft white cloak

of crystal shine leaves them starker

What cold mystic spell holds fast my hand

what eerie charm doth my fate seal

in darkling night whence daylight is banned

with what ice maid have I to kneel

As my eyes take in my ghost white bride

one last iced tear...

I would....

I would stand infront of your door,
at night, letting the soaring rain pour.
I would call your name over and over again,
until you open your eyes and remember the dreams we had.

I would whisper sweet things to you,
that's exactly what I used to do.
I would make you feel beautiful,
do you remember how I used to prove it to you?

I would come back home with flowers in my hand,
God I woul...

THE ROSE

The Rose opened its heart petal by petal

unfolding its virtues to the naked eye

You opened your heart page by page

unfolding your virtues to my soul

even sealing it with a loving kiss

   on that fateful day

It was only to last seven weeks

until your gun was pointed at my head

the double barrel between my eyes

you hated the concept of equality

slavery was your ...

First Night

First Night

A messy room

Two messy heads

“Will you marry me?”

He quietly said

A shadowed celebration

assured but never taken

shrouded and unknown

the beautiful unshown

The Forgotten Valentine

`

Valens, you are esteemed worthy,
at the Via Flaminia you lay:
Valentinus offered up in faith.
Your deeds aren't known in our day.

In this life you wed young couples;
an act the Emperor would not permit.
And though your grace the monarch received,
your execution he did transmit.

Alas, with clubs and stones they came,
challenged by your fortitude gr...
