You don't lose until you give up
Keep striving till you succeed
That's how aeroplanes and light came into being
Prayer and right intentions are important tools
Focus on your task wholeheartedly until you achieve

Decisions aren't easy to make
Leave the task to Lord after you pray
Miracles are God's work to do
How he rescued Moses parting the sea
No human can ever decide things like these

Wait, work, pray, decide, faith, hope....leads to success in life.

Thanks for the kind comments mate - I'm glad it struck a chord with you.
I'm a fan of Leonard Cohen - so maybe that influence was there - although it wasn't deliberate.
I think this poem works on a couple of levels - it's basic thrust is the hypocrisy of religious teaching - that makes something that is less than perfect feel 'unclean' when it is those imperfections that make us human.
I wrote it quickly - but I like the rhythm of it and I will probably work on it at some point in the future to produce a song from it.
I really appreciate you taking the time to comment
Ian

Nice one Ray! Taking control in small ways, self administering tiny chances of life ........ Very apt now in this pandemic, when we had completely lost control of our lives, livelihood, social life etc. etc. Most people with any kind of space here have been 'gardening', and somehow it is relaxing to see plants you have bought and looked after flourishing.

Yes, disappointments are hard pills to chew. Some good verses here I find.

"They want rhyme I shall give them rhyme I live to serve for that is my curse" a poet's plight.

A knight of the poetic verse freshly anointed,
But then again conclusions often leave men disappointed......strong words, I must say.

This is the first part of a 3-part epic poem I am posting in instalments on Facebook all this month. I’m using it as a fundraiser to raise money for Medecins Sans Frontieres, the medical charity that does so much good providing urgent medical assistance to vulnerable people all over the world. I will post parts 2&3 on WOL in due course. If anyone feels kind enough to make a donation, here is my fundraiser page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/timothy-ellis2

Keep going. You are on your verge of your life's biggest breakthrough. When the life is turned dark, after this there is new dawn. Hope, faith, trust and prayers can keep you going. Just dont give up.
You write really well and express yourself beautifully. It helps to get things out from your mind and so leaves you rejuvenated and strong.
Better times at the horizon, thay is why the battles all too strong. You will put up a brave show. A broken self is a symbol of your power to confront life's battles. You are brave, alive and have well fought the battles.
Keep your chin held up high and keep pushing yourself to carry on.....your breakthrough is just round the corner.

Take care!! For we care!!!

You find the essence of soul and blues very less in poetry and the absence is sorely felt ! Your poem represents the spirit of a very romanticized genre that has been very close to my heart over the years, A dying pet also is quite literally the worst thing that can happen Keep writing great and simple poems like these the world needs them.

I really like this, the sentiment, the structure and the execution. The ending 'idea' is very thought-grabbing. I had to smile at the 'landing on top', a strong, personality 'point' perhaps. The title is great.

Yes, I think occupations which operate “on the edge” breed a robust character in their people. The armed forces, trawlermen, Police, medics, miners, firemen etc they live with danger and it shapes them, not least in their humour.

JC - you're right about the style of humour. But like any job with the

with its nod to a shared experience.

Then there was the pundit chatting about relays with champion
runner Phil Redmond.
"Well, Phil, tell us about your amazing third leg."
- and.....
Richie Benaud commenting during a British Masters golf tournament - "Notices are appearing at courses telling golfers not to lick their balls on the green." ?
The media moral is plain to see
For those who talk to you and me -
To prevent your meaning heading south
Engage brain before operating mouth!
