The thing is trying has a cost (cost of effort, cost of energy, cost of emotions, cost of time, cost of resources, cost of other things not tried, cost of opinions etc) and admittedly with the odd event driven exception, in general you get what you pay for. Like any other sort of shopping or gambling, the better your research the more probable a good result from the transaction. Imperative trying (all out all expenses) isn't appropriate for every type of need and even then the outcome of the attempt (not just whether it succeeded but how much it ended up costing) still depends entirely on the intelligence of the try.

Great point Dean, But as long as we never give up trying, there will eventually be action. just try something different. Thomas Edison tried over 3000 times before "seeing the light" Thanks again dean, I was waiting. Have a great day. JD.

I’m literally in love (now I am afraid I will sound cheesy) with the imagery in this poem. I enjoy the subtle twist of there potentially being another person behind your break for freedom...Saving the last kiss...What makes it so immersive, is the way, I, as a reader, can picture the landscapes. This is not just a typical love poem, it is a narrative driven picture of beauty in words. I am lost in nature with you and I don’t want to go home.

I read this earlier and I think this is an incredible piece of writing, however I didn't want to like or comment it initially because my personal philosophies and experiences are anti-nationalistic and against borders and therefore against concepts such as treason etc, so I can't relate and don't want to associate to or applaud the majority of what it describes. (even though I understand that others who have lived different lives in different places may well relate much better to every aspect, but I am not them, I am me)

But nobody else has liked or commented it (as yet) so I thought I'll at least pipe up and admire the writing skill, rather than have it go without any response at all (as yet)

Thank you so much to Stephen and Cathy. In my opinion this is a poem that speaks to eternal verities: the bravery of people who resist persecution of their beliefs and people brave enough to face the fact of mortality. These topics are rarely popular but are always close to my heart.

JD., this is my Christmas poem because it introduces reality into this season which is so gift wrapped and swamped in tinsel and reindeers. Christmas has been hijacked by a secular society which has lost its way. Christ was born on this day, not Sana claus.

I love every word and thank you for this
Keith

And yet I think it is those who are not allowed to fit in who have that desire to conform and be with all the rest, whilst those who are already amongst the throng and not allowed to be otherwise in fact have a strong desire to be different and that's why hammers are needed.

in each catchy quatrain
we must all self-entertain
though it be such a bane
we mustn't our part disdain
for the virus to wane
