David, many thanks indeed for your thoughts on fleshing out and defining in mere words the essence of a beautiful thing. The right words are always at the horizon – and always for a limited period of time. We must always be ready to concede no permanence but fight to find beauty in ordinary lives and celebrate it. It is all around.
Jennifer, I think we are exactly on the same page on this one, it's good to share a language, thank you.
Alan, yes, hands up when it comes to drawing on past events/eras without a scrap of experience as regards what many will be revisiting as bad situations – not my intention at all. With WW2, I hope that the people who find themselves immediately face-to-face with a painful piece of their past are relatively few in number but it's a good point.
Martin, thank you for your generosity – your endorsement is most welcome.

There are some beautiful sunsets and therefore gorgeous sunsets at this time of year in particular which are set off nicely by the starkness of winter. Wonderfully captured here Peter

One of the founders of the "project" set out the need to keep the
truth behind the process from the peoples of Europe and in my lifetime I've witnessed our own elected representatives (with a few
laudable and often derided exceptions) signing up to the plan (and
it WAS a plan) to transform the Common Market to a political power-
grab. In my working life, I took an oath of allegiance to our sovereign
lady, Queen Elizabeth, her heirs and successors - and unlike certain
members of parliament, past and present, I do not consider it to be
transferable to Brussels, its heirs and successors.
The country will survive, as it has always done. We only need to
keep our nerve and our belief in ourselves, as previous generations
did in even more dangerous and risk-filled days.

I am always concerned that the older I get the more intolerant I get, so blaming somebody else is nothing new for me.

Lovely word pictures Peter. Sadly I can't help but look at trails in the sky as reminders of the fighter planes during WW2 and the deaths of so many young men - or was that not what you saw?

I'm still working on that Blake quote. The words about the folly
involved in riding a tiger keep intruding. Wrath is certainly to be
understood when oppression without recourse takes a prevalent position in our lives - essentially "the divine right of kings" pursued
by Charles 1 was the basis for what followed - and that, in turn,
saw a return of the monarchy in modified form that the people of
the time welcomed from what had been experienced in the interim
period...but without the bloodshed.
In recent history, the people have been betrayed (oppressed) by
the manner in which their elected representatives have kept them
uninformed of matters of huge historical importance - and this in
turn will undoubtedly see some powerful reactions and changes that will propel our nation's history onwards. Hardly an unknown
experience.

Lovely and very nostalgic! Glad someone else (keith) had one of those cilindrical stone bottles. Really uncomfortable, but meant to air the bed. In Italy in those days they had a contraption called 'the priest's wife' - a kind of lightweight wooden frame where they hung a little iron pan filled with charcoal. It did warm the bed but probably caused a few fires too!

Human nature rarely changes. Arrogance in public life is the most
obvious source of cock-ups. In private life, it is usually a resistance
to admitting fault (pride!) and even making a virtue of it when it does
occur (the "meant well" syndrome).
These lines are a good illustration of the situation.

Great poem, and unfortunately how true - there are always the 2 sides to loving someone. (Don't tell anyone, but I had to look up dichotomy again - di OK = 2 - but the chotomy?) !!

Thanks Don! I do get a kick out if it! I've written the silliest things, even limericks, and made the stupid mistake of posting them on a certain social network and gotten shunned! Which evenrually led me to WOL, thank you very much! Sometimes I got absolutely nada to say but my fingers are itchy! It's nice to be understood! Australia, eh? Not a bad idea at all! Thank you again! And yeah screw competitions and winning prizes, it would sure be nice but it's not why we do it!
Keep on
Dear Don!
Just write

Cynthia/Mike - we are, therefore we write. Poets can't resist our inborn urge to write. You are right Cynthia. Sharing is a bonus. If others enjoy it, fine. If not ? Still fine. After all we write for ourselves? ...hmm ?
