Echo Greg's feelings entirely. Nature can definitely help one feel happier and less stressed at bad times. A walk in a beautiful wood, or sitting in the sun in a garden make one feel considerably better.

Unfortunately too true, especially the 'sycophantic sob' part. Perhaps they are such difficult, stressing jobs, even without Covid that Brits don't want to do them any more? It takes ages to train as a doctor, for nursing not so long, but it is an extremely demanding job.

Yes I also have happy memories of the hair situation. I think the powers that be were pretty smart. We were so busy fighting a battle on that front that we never got around to doing anything reslly bad. I actually have another poem in which my battles on the hair front feature `i'll dig it out when I get as moment. Got to decide now whom I'm going to feature in my FB music post.

Your instincts for survival come shining through in this beautiful work.
You're confronting cancer head on and continuing to live as normal a life as possible without fear.
Your courage is admirable.
Continue to harness the warmth and glow of nature.
Keep the theraputic writing flowing.
Wishing you a successful battle against cancer.

Best wishes on your personal journey...in and out of the house.
I've just sent my sister a well reviewed book which focusses on the
importance of diet " How To Starve Your Cancer (Without Starving
Yourself)" by Jane McLelland. I certainly believe in the importance
of a carefully chosen selection of food - which is basically the fuel
that powers the body smoothly - or NOT!! It also seems logical that
self-help at home in between the medical therapy treatments can be
good for both body and spirit. After all, WHAT is the sense in giving
cancer cells the stuff they crave and be ignorant of what you;'re doing?

Men are perhaps discouraged to feel and express emotions from an early age. They are often reminded boys don't cry!
One can offer many reasons as to why the subject of this poem found himself in the predicament he ended up in. All meaningless. The subject knows the answer.

Thanks for posting. But my article is nit about religion politics but about the migrant labor who are working in far away states. Due to covid19 unemployment, panic and poverty they are traveling back to their hometown 1000s of km away.Due to lockdown all the railway station and other public transport are shutdown.
Regarding religion-Don't trust bbc world or media trying to build the gap. India is a secular democratic country with Unity in Diversity.
My article is not about religion based politics but the plight of migrant labor who are stuck in state thousands of Km away. It is about life of poverty. Locals, media are trying as much as possible but strong policy is required to help lakhs of people migrating 1000+km by THEIR Foot. Yes By Walking. It includes kids, ladies pregnant ladies.
Not every news of India is about religion ❤️

A great poem holds its meaning in the eyes of the reader not the poet.
That is precisely what I feel like is going on here, I interpreted it as my struggles with God and theology ever since a young age and with that interpretation in mind this poem really did bring up a lot of mixed memories,
Enjoyed every verse,
Mortimer

Old age really is such a bittersweet thing, just as you begin to get the wisdom, your body fails you and there you are a young soul richened in wisdom but in a body blistered and obsolete under the burdens of time.
A beautiful Poem Abdul, let us have hope and reminisce the mistakes we made as those made by unruly children

The condition in India really is alarming, it is so heart and gut wrenching to see both the sister nations fight and suffer by themselves internally too over something such as religion, in this day and age where humanity is learning about the edge of the nation.
I truly hope things can turn for the better, through exchanges in art and wonderful expressions of feelings and yearning for peace in works of poetry such as this.
Aman baahar sey nhi, Andar sey aata hai.

Hi CBT
Thanks for your comments. It's just a work in progress I'm tinkering about with. Still not quite there. I've changed the ending- probably from "excellent" to "#~@*!".
Poems generally benefit from a bit of ambiguity. I'm glad you consider a variety of readings. I would find just the one system here, but each to their own. "The System" (in italics if I could get it) certainly hangs around like an odious stink.

Thanks to Nigel. Tom and Po for liking and thanks to Mortimer, Keith, Kimberley and Deb for commenting
Mortimer this poem came almost out of nowhere very quickly in a matter of minutes which surprised me. Normally I write things out long hand first and change it as I enter it on the screen. But I typed this straight in. I am glad you like it
Keith thank you my friend. I think you are absolutely right in the marriage if that is an acceptable word of art and the written word. Similarly with music. I gather inspiration from a number of sources. But quite a lot comes from music and more latterly with pieces of art. My local poetry group has been in collaboration with a group of like minded artists producing some work, one feeding off the other.
I have a particular love of surrealism.
Kimberly thanks you for your kind appreciation. I am humbled
Deb I don't think anyone can be as amazed as I was at producing this poem
Thank you all once again.
Love and blessings
and keep safe

A very sad portrait, the alteration of his personality. But it is hard to be sympathetic.
After a 'happy childhood', the missing link is the anger of 'his rebellious youth', not knowing what or whom he was rebelling against. Perhaps justifiably; or not. Maybe just in his nature. The mundane years of 'making a living' honestly and consistently, seem to have squelched him utterly. But why?
Interesting reference, 'a doubting Thomas'. Open to innumerable ideas, not necessarily in Biblical terms. I'd really like to know the gist of your thought there.

Short and sharp and good. Excellent ending.
I am a bit puzzled about ''AN occult system of his own' and 'THE arcane system' which seems universal. Do I presume they are one and the same? In different periods? Or social strata?

You wore that shirt to school? Shocking, David. I did no such thing, but was regularly collared for having hair that was too long. In retrospect, and after attending a Zoom meeting with former schoolmates and one former teacher last night, I reckon I was swayed too much by hippy 'values' in my last two years at school. It turned my head. Man.
Blimey. I reckon there's a poem in that. I won't plagiarise yours but ... thanks, mate!
