we used to buy old Crombie overcoats from jumble sales when we woz punks. I had a real beaut, all silky satin lined and snuggly warm in winter - went great with ripped jeans and mohican! Never see them now. Go into a vintage clothing shop today and it's all shell suits and 70's Adidas. I feel sorry for youngsters, that they don't have access to the dead wardrobes of the 40's 50's and 60's. I had some great suits too, lovely thick material, none of this thin off the peg shite peddled in every high street chain. Ah well, Memory Lane as you say Ray.

there is something very compelling and enviable in the simple life of a gardener or peasant farmer which many of us only rarely get to glimpse and wonder at - our own complicated hurdy-gurdy lives having spun off in multitude directions that never quite connect sufficiently with the soil for long enough or in meaningful and lasting ways.

The title could almost be the name of a Greek village or holiday villa - in fact what a great name for a villa or a boat or bungalow back home. So much to wonder at here Tom and admire too. Thanks for posting.

Memory lane has such a wealth of memories to look back on most of which are rich like this one. I don't remember ever having a suede jacket but I do remember having and old RAF great coat I was very attached to and then left it at college and lost it.

Different approach from your usual pensive self Tom. All string to your bow. This seems to be the division of masculine and feminine in the psyche, crikey! (and how ridiculous are the artificial divisions thus thrown up).
I read somewhere once that the world is heating up due to the predominance of masculinity in mass thinking. (Gulp)

Col, I picked up on that poem of Rick's , very colourful and in great style. I think there is a certain bitterness in the building over of nature's bounty - but of course with rising populations what can we really do (go underground maybe). Thanks, mate.

Rick, I spent hours to the north on coaches - just mind numbing, as you say. Cheers. My overall heart sinking moment is in the Solstice Services near Stonehenge. I remember a patchwork of fields there in 1960 on a bike.

Thing is, you've hit the nail on the head with many of my verses, in as much as I like to take 'classic' jokes and rewrite them in rhyme (I've dubbed them 'Chestnuts Reroasted'), so chances are that you may know the stories I cover in some of any future offerings I'll be putting forward!

some lovely lines in here Mithun. I particularly like

I did wish
for the dusk of the moment to linger awhile
but wishes are fishes
they swim away

I think in the next verse 'glance' should really be 'glances' to make full sense - or you could change the line to read something like 'for one more glance' which would keep the rhyme with 'dance' intact and neat.

my only other quibble is the word 'eon' in the last line but only because it is a somewhat odd word that seems a little out of place. However I cannot think of a suitable replacement although you could use the alternative spelling of 'aeon' - I believe 'eon' is more commonly used in N.America. Or even possibly make it plural - 'to stay warm for the aeons ahead'.

having read this through several times now I have to say I like it very much and hope you don't mind me making these few suggestions. Thanks for posting. I look forward to reading some more from you in due course.

In Barcelona we did the tourist thing and went to the Sagrada Familia - from the outside it is eerily wonderful - it is being 'finished' but to me it's being finished off - the newer bits, while well intentioned, lack the verve, passion and eye ripping virtuosity of the parts that Gaudi over saw.
The guys who went with me were amazed by the building - I was dismayed.
