Hi, Adam,I really enjoyed your excellent comment on 'VE Day, 2020'. And I've considered it a lot. I finally think it was the 'sound element' that dictated the word order, the slight 'mmm' of both words beginning and ending the 'idea', almost like a bracket, kind of a 'thoughtful' sound. 'War'' is a difficult vocallization to start a line. But that order has more 'elegance', I absolutely agree. Not to mention correct grammar.

cheers Po - glad you liked it.

Yes - I think 'Bayonet' is probably one of my best - it works both as a poem and a song and the message is much bigger than the picture it seems to paint - I don't know if I've shared the song with you - apologies if I have - but here it is: https://soundcloud.com/the-man-at-the-back-1/the-bayonet-in-the-shed

I'm new to Wol and am slowly navigating through different bolggers works.
Came across it's raining today.

Life in parallel universe destined to drift apart. A sad experience many recognize and are powerless to change.
Enjoyed reading this well constructed emotionally charged poem.

Abdul, Mrs F is possibly a better poet than me. At least she knows how to rhyme! Yes, apparently we can see the stars - and indeed Venus, more clearly these days, Graham. Thanks.

The hardest style I think Greg, done nicely here!

Good to record one positive thing about lockdown. Only last night I stood looking at an incredibly bright Venus in the early evening sky, not really dark and wished I had a really powerful telescope to do it justice.

Hallelujah; John.

Let's hear it for humanity.
Keep beating the drums.
Let's hope that our rulers pretending to switch off their deaf aids to avoid the reality of these exceptional times will get the message.
Keep beating the drums of sanity.
Appropriate poem for current time.

Give wings to your heart
Let it fly in horizons far
When time is right for you
Things will move and do
Wonders beyond imagination
Achieving tasks impossible
In most easy ways

It's just moving in that direction
It's just reaching that time
Everything has a preparation
Before the final show is done

It's not over until you give up
It's easy to give up and regret later
Its difficult to strive today but will give happiness forever

You don't lose until you give up
Keep striving till you succeed
That's how aeroplanes and light came into being
Prayer and right intentions are important tools
Focus on your task wholeheartedly until you achieve

Decisions aren't easy to make
Leave the task to Lord after you pray
Miracles are God's work to do
How he rescued Moses parting the sea
No human can ever decide things like these

Wait, work, pray, decide, faith, hope....leads to success in life.

Thanks for the kind comments mate - I'm glad it struck a chord with you.
I'm a fan of Leonard Cohen - so maybe that influence was there - although it wasn't deliberate.
I think this poem works on a couple of levels - it's basic thrust is the hypocrisy of religious teaching - that makes something that is less than perfect feel 'unclean' when it is those imperfections that make us human.
I wrote it quickly - but I like the rhythm of it and I will probably work on it at some point in the future to produce a song from it.
I really appreciate you taking the time to comment

Nice one Ray! Taking control in small ways, self administering tiny chances of life ........ Very apt now in this pandemic, when we had completely lost control of our lives, livelihood, social life etc. etc. Most people with any kind of space here have been 'gardening', and somehow it is relaxing to see plants you have bought and looked after flourishing.
