As a life-long Moody I like the poetry in several of the MB’s works. Good to see this interpretation. RIP Graeme Edge too.
Ps: the strap line on my blog refers to the MB’s too. Seeing Justin in October!

Good start by the way 🌈

I relate to this one. Lately, I’ve really been involved in self assessing. Things I’m working on filled with lies I’ve told some old some new. Lies I keep inside. Lies that could destroy me. Human nature is a curious thing. It’s difficult to navigate. And we beat ourselves up despite the clear evidence that we aren’t alone in that act of spiritual and self cartography. Needless to say, I enjoy this piece.

As I said, I wasn't going to get involved in this discussion, despite the provocative title of this piece of prose, mainly because, not for the first time, I didn't really understand what MC was going on about. But it is worthwhile saying that I understand the term 'woke' as something which accords with the following values: "We will not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia or other forms of hate-speech, or contributions that could be interpreted as such. There is a difference between criticising a particular government, organisation, community or belief, and attacking people on the basis of their race, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. Don’t do it." These are the values of Write Out Loud, as stated in our guidelines. If that is construed as 'woke', so be it.

Hi Jennifer -your comment has been read with appreciation. In
my paragaph about Larry Hart, I mentioned the "need for love".
I should have added "and approval" to be more accurate in this
context. Also, there have been prior examples of non-poetical
works on this site that occasionally incur the wrath of the
moderators - usually for perceived (that word again) political
reasons. Cheers.
MC.

Likewise, Keith. I believe one of the primary motivators of poetry is this needing to be heard, and a huge portion of this is retroactively present in today and tomorrow's poems. Cheers, Frederick.

I agree with John, Holden; and think this is one of your best. The poet Simon Pomery explores this topic too, in a poem called 'Owl' and more recently 'Divina Lux'. I think you'd like his work, because with him there's always something behind the words, as there is in this poem you have written.

Hello MC! Don't see why you are being got at for writing somethig which is not a poem? The site is Write Out Loud, mainly poetry but not all. Anyway poetry or not I agree with most of what you say absolutely. 'Self deception that believes the lie' has it in a nutshell. Keep up the good work!

Lovely Keith! Still make daisy chains for my grandaughter, and my boys used to bring back those wretched goldfish. they kept on strangely disappearing, until we discovered the cat had learnt to fish, poor things! Pressed flowers too, and The Observer's Book of birds, flowers and dogs. We didn't have TV, so had to make our own amusements, but were never bored. My sister wasn't the favourite, but a much prettier child than I was, so I once emptied Mum's fountain pen into her mouth. She started blowing blue bubbles, so retribution wasn't short in coming. No ill effects luckily.

Decency, as you say, is definitely not 'in' nowadays, with some exceptions. Courage become rarer perhaps, but would say is still easier to find, as our lives so often unexpectedly require it.Like the image of 'our better angels with clipped wings'. Says it in a few words. Jennifer

Wow! never expected such positive reactions, very encouraging. Thanks so much Frederick, Tom, Adam, Keith, Stephen G and Stephen A, Holden, for the likes, and Ray and Keith for the kind comments. Keith, your Moroccan sounds very like this one, he was so upset at the idea of his hair being shorn off, quite understandably, the only beautiful thing he had left. As you saw, Ray, his image stayed with me for a long time. I don't know who had brought him in, probably the police. H could whisper Italian, French, English and presumably Arabic too. Thanks again to all.

Your poem reminds me of a beautiful Indian song. I'm leaving the lyrics of the song here but in hindi. I'm sure you'll appreciate the translation of the lyrics.
Childhood memories are the best memories, but for some. There are many unlucky children who go through hell of hardships and tortures, still their innocent hearts remember the good old times they were able to somehow grab during childhood.
Beautiful poem

Hi Bryony, welcome to WriteOutLoud! Thanks for your comment on 'Greenland', was a bit of an experiment that one but I'm glad you enjoyed.
As for what you said about 'Untitled Pillows' that's one of the joys of writing poetry; bottling up those bittersweet or somewhat uncanny memories and then being able to revisit them if you choose. Looking forward to reading more. 😀
