Thank you for the kind comments, I am fine but we received some terrible news this week, the sudden loss of our nephew, It was such a shock. I am also away at the moment and although my view is of blue skies and sunshine my head is in a totally different place. I am not sure I will ever be able to find the right words to write about this time, hence the need for a break. Thanks again for your lovely messages. Jx

This may be a re-post. I'm not sure if I've posted it on here previously or not.
This was the first poem that I ever wrote, and it amuses me to think that after writing poetry for 5 or 6 years now I haven't got any better.

It always seems to come as a surprise when the nights draw in, and leaves curl and turn brown.
The last line of this explains that it's just part of a natural cycle.
I liked that the birds flapped us an "au revoir" before heading south. The ones around us chirp "I'll sithee" before buggering off.

A very interesting, and clever piece.
I have a feeling that this has more to it than the plight of sunflowers "if the tanks march in".

Thanks you Aisha, Stephen and Holden for following and liking!
Nice to get your comment Keith. It was quite deliberately that I drew a parallel with sexual congress, that's fine! Some love their machines and there will be overlaps, albeit usually subconscious.
Glad you enjoyed. I've just resumed going out on the bike and spent quite a lot in tarting it up , as it were!
Thanks Graham, I wanted to prove I could still perform (on the bike) and I did feel very involved and a sense of freedom. Great all round, though a bit knackering.

Thank you so much, Jordyn for liking so many of my scribbles! I did go through a barren patch, but a few ideas started to float around a few weeks ago, so I caught them quick before they floated out the window!
Nice to see you posting again. Your poetry has a lovely sense of composition and unfolds beautifully to draw the reader in. I look forward to reading more ? Thanks again

I particularly like the way you have given the bicycle a persona. I really like it.

I enjoyed this. Slightly sensual but that's my unfortunate way of seeing life. The last stanza is quite erotic.

Fascinating stuff Graham and more power to your elbow. I remember Steve Perryman's debut , caused a stir. At one game the crowd surged forward and we were pushed about ten yards, scary. I used to watch West Ham too in that single deck arena. Hell, i'm becoming a fan....

Hi Graham. I felt a connection with the heroes of the day and the team at the time, and I believed suffered in the pilgrimage. That's just my version, and the likes of Jimmy were of their time and beyond it. Shame he was left out of the 1966 winning game! I remember Gilzean likewise with his headers. Great personality. And thanks for saying that , I try to rely on inspiration, not easy at the moment.
Greg, as a master recorder of moments yourself you have sussed out the truth. A very long trudge - my mate being the prime mover, as we also worked as a duo and just starting in the business. We never thought of it as a hardship, just got on with it. Mucho gracias for the compliment.
John, an erratic game just kept us on our toes as it were! They were doing pretty well at the time.
Thanks Stephen, glad it worked for you. Yes, a long way indeed, and the pubs always brim full too.
Thanks for the likes, Stephen, Holden and Donna.

Where are they trained these days?
