Hello Fred,

This poem is a cry from the heart which cannot comprehend the complexities of life with all its conventions. That which should be unimportant stands in the way of love. The last line says it all. Do you believe that love can overcome all? I do.
Thank you for such a sensitive piece of writing.

Mike,
This is a masterpiece of poetry. It flows, you take the reader with you through vivid descriptions yet all is tinged with a sense of the otherness of life.
Thank you

Forgive me if my assumption of you is incorrect but this poem speaks of a woman of substance, of no messing, one who speaks directly.
Good for you
Thanks I felt empowered after reading this

Firstly well done Keith on being awarded POTW. I don't know how you come up with such brilliantly written Poetry on such a regular basis. This is a fascinating, highly original piece and it creates vivid imagery as you read through it.

Whatever one believes (whatever the religion) it is the practitioners, the priests, the vicars, the rabbis etc who subjugate their flocks into submissive adherence.

Inherently the good teachings of many of the religions hold up for people to be "good eggs" in civilised society. However, it is the threat of purgatory, hell etc that religious leaders promulgate in order to keep people under control that is the unattractive side of religion.

My religion is my family and friends. They never let me down, do not lie to me, and never promise something that they cannot fulfil and we all share unconditional love. That's good enough for me!

Contentment is the best religion. The buddhists are the nearest.

Brian - I had a much cherished aunt who married well and
drove a big Jaguar saloon with panache - and from which
she used to yell at tardy pedestrians who got in the way.
I've never underestimated the female behind the wheel!
Graham - I now assume the MK in Milton Keynes stands
for "motoring karma"! I just don't want to be in front of
any such vehicle when things goes awry with Man's
Presumptuous Plan.

Being a bit temporally challenged, this took me back a long way! I remember, as an Engineer, hand-writing text for the typist to type. Partly because that was the business structure of the day, and partly I suspect, because like Doctors, Engineers' handwriting was generally an unintelligible scrawl. The advent of word processors and computers meant that Engineers typed their own stuff, albeit one-fingered, untaught, with frequent use of the 'delete' key. The result of that was the reduction of admin staff, and in larger companies, the demise of the typing pool. I have advanced to three and four-fingered typing, sharpened with writing poems (allegedly!), but still tend to use the delete and backspace keys rather more than I'd like.

Enjoyed this guided tour down memory lane.

Hello Trevor,
As soon as I began to read this excellent poem I remember the opening scene of the film entitled ¨The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel ¨. Judi Dench was enagaged in such a call. At some time or other we have all had this irritating experience but your poem encapsulates it perfectly.
Thank your

Anya, Brian your very kind
To welcome me (and mind)
I need to tell you, (duty bound)
I'm intellectually sound

My verse it sometimes is quite strange
My mind, perplexes me
Where does it get this strange stuff from
To fill my poetry ?

I will unleash my mind and let it
Travel round the site
It seems to be at home with friends
Although your out of sight

Dear Martin and Col,

Much obliged. When uploading poems it's impossible to know which poems will hit the mark, and which don't. That's what makes it fun. Really, it's all about experimentation. What's the worst that could happen?

Hope you aren't finding the builders to stressful Col.

Have a lovely week gents.

I still have a tattoo of a religion that I thought was the right thing for me at a time too. Still haven't covered it up as I haven't had the time or money to do so in quite a while. We all make mistakes, but to push past the inhibitions and create a belief in ourselves and our own abilities can make us stronger in the long run than any organized religion ever could. Stay strong and keep your head up - and good poem.?
