Thanks to all for reading. Thanks to Rachel, Brian, Jon, Anya and Darren for liking.

Thanks to Colin, Pat and Hannah for commenting . I seem to be writing a lot of stuff around my past these days which is fine as long as I don't become a BOF. That is to say not a bigger one than usual
Thanks again everybody, much appreciated

Interesting poem and subject matter Ian which I enjoyed reading. I was wondering how it might work with the last 4 verses interspersed between the first 4:
“what is beautiful?”...
Eliza weeps...
“why are they hurtful?”...
in that hour of hunger...
etc
as it stands it feels a bit like two one-sided conversations bolted together. Maybe you've done it this way for performance whereas I'm coming to it on the page so to speak - as a reader rather than a listener.
I was in a discussion here recently about explaining poetry. I think in this case the added picture and tags are a distraction - the words speak for themselves.
Hope you don't mind me chucking my musings at you Ian. All the very best, Colin.

Hello Ian,
A great deal can be gleaned from this poem. Appearances are deceptive. The craving for perfection and its obsession is shown to be futile. Beauty is more than skin deep. You have crafted a beautiful poem, one which will cause many to ponder on.
Thank you
Keith

If I remember correctly Martin the flake advert was even more directly concerned with mouthplay leaving little to the imagination - but us poets don't mind that do we? Thanks for your poetic response!

Brian - this was just a playaround with -atter words. I was pleased with the result.

This poem was a playaround
With verse that ends with -atter
My nice friend on the farside
Says I could patter-batter (?)

(think its time I went to bed, my poetry's deteriorating)

Thanks Colin.
I just would like to add that I have great faith in youth. They have a voice that mostly falls on deaf ears or is ridiculed. They are our future and they are the only people who can make a difference to the future of our planet. If only we would all listen to them... it may be just a fraction of a percent of their views that are of favourable substance, but for me that is worth it. There may be a wonderful solution in there to society's problems... there may be answers...

many hundreds of years ago - in the 1950's I believe - it was obligatory for all pop songs to contain doo lang a lang type lyrics. Of course that was way before my time . . . ?

Hi Keith. I'm fine thanks. Just taking a break from posting and commenting on this site. I no longer have a profile on WOL so although I can receive messages i can't post them privately. I do still visit the site occasionally, and still hit the like button from time to time. I don't honestly think anyone will miss my talentless scriblings. There are some brilliant poets on here and i was never one of those.
I'm still enjoying your postings when I do look in. Please keep me informed on any developments regarding any publications. But you have to leave a contact detail for me to reply.
I hope you're well too.
Cheers Kevin

A wonderful poem Keith . As David says our own parents are very often a lesson to how we can parent our own children. I was blessed with being able to be around when mine where born through to the first few years of life, something which has carried o into adulthood. I am glad to see that your obvious talent is no longer suppressed
