Information

We read and discuss our own poetry from both the technical and creative perspectives. Our unusual speciality is the group's collage poem, created at every meeting. All our collage poems can be seen on the right. We usually have a theme for each month. Reviews of our meetings can be viewed here: http://iambics.wordpress.com/

What we do

all with love and enthusiasm for poetry
then decide they must all party together!

Message for Nicola - and apologies! I gave you the wrong spelling for Roger McGough (that's the right one!) and I'm sure you knew that but were either too polite to say, or you were extremely tolerant of my ageing brain! Sorry!
Love, Dorinda x

Drifting

Young vocal cords
musical rhyme dances
ideas drift along
uplifting poetic voices
creative limitless energy
soaked with inspiration
words of meaning
fall on all
that listen intently.

Hello everyone! I've had a few messages re World Poetry Day/schools comps, etc. I'm away 20-24 March, and this is possibly a little late in the day, but if there is anything I can contribute towards either, do let me know - thanks!

There will be no meeting next Monday due to the train strike!

Next meet up for March will be the 20th that gives us another week for the theme of Internationalism/globalism
as we might be doing something for International Poetry Day!

If there is another train strike we might not!

Cheers for that Andy sent one off for love poetry

Turn Up The Heat

Heartache trys to remove insecurity
to give romance another chance
feelings build pure raw emotion
two internal flames find love.

A wonderful night again, thankyou Stockport WOL. For David and John, the poem we were trying to remember was "Adlestrop" by Edward Thomas (1878-1917). I had to find it or I would have been awake all night!

Happy New Year to everyone.

Nigel, I love "Peace".

I struggled with this month's theme "Hangover", but I'm looking forward to hear everyone else's interpretations tonight.

Jenny is braving it and coming back for another session, so we must have done something right last time!

Peace

Tormented child of war
travels in constant fear
even when told that
they will be spared
he watches his Mother
cry relentlessly for peace.

Merry Christmas to everyone at Stockport W O L X

Castle to Knight

Conflict and bloodshed
after many battles
the war ends.

Both armies then
bury all the
gallant knights slain.

Hi everyone! Just to send apologies as I won't be at WOL this evening - so much going on, I really do need a rest tonight! Also Maggie asked me to send her apologies, too, as she isn't too well at the moment...
Have a great evening!

Thanks Martin

A Stiff One

Under the table
the view is
just slightly darker
but I'm safe
from Big Blondie
blew a kiss
fondled my bum
wanted some fun
not my type
instead of watching
having to listen
will get out
when the coast
is absolutely clear
in this position
hot and sweaty
sore and red
got stiff neck.

Hi Everybody
I am probably being a bit dim here but never really realised that this facility existed and therefore have never accessed it before. Anyway following on suggestions from last month I am just putting up details of 'under the fable'
This is an open mike night at the castle pub ,66 Oldham street Manchester on the 18th August and 21st September . I attended and read last year and are going to do so again on the 21st September. The second date has been added because they ran out of slots for the first night. Therefore I will attend both nights but reading on the 21st because I was too late for the 18th. Should prove to be interesting nights and worth attending.
Cheers
Martin

Nigel, I think I'll throw my pen away!

I love the perversity of having someone else's eyes! I hadn't taken the homework theme that literally. Excellent work.

I think I'd better sit silently in the corner again, at our next WOL meeting though!

I cant wait to hear what the others have come up with.
