Information

We read and discuss our own poetry from both the technical and creative perspectives. Our unusual speciality is the group's collage poem, created at every meeting. All our collage poems can be seen on the right. We usually have a theme for each month. Reviews of our meetings can be viewed here: http://iambics.wordpress.com/

Hi John
Mark Sheeky Poem: think I'm supposed to send it to you:

Mark Sheeky Painting
G473a

She’s cold.
She’s almost drowned out the sun with
her tears; they did not stop for days:
see that sun almost falling from the sky!

The black menace in the corner is
a frightening reminder of her
desperate journey.
The sea was cold.

Yet…

It is still the same sun
and it hasn’t fallen from the sky.

And she sees the flowers
and she loves their vibrancy.

They are from the earth and she
is on that same earth, and
not on the leaky boat now.

She takes the mug of tea
from the kind lady.

She is safe.

Part of her aches for happier
yesterdays.

Her youthful, aged heart sighs and
begins its crippled recovery
towards a slowly blossoming
new hope….

Hello! I have the details for Christine Turner's funeral. I know many of you will not know her, or not know her well, but it would be remiss of me not to give you the info if needed! So....let me know, please, if you'd like to attend! Thanks so much - love, Dorinda x

Fine summer weather Marple folk entered
asking us what was going on?
telling them Book Fair on you know
being held in the Oldknow tonight
we didn't know but will stay for a bit
doing our best to the few that came
next time maybe the word will get out
that our lot are coming to the Oldknow
so next year if we go back maybe a crowd
rather than the odd drinker strolling in
finding out why we are doing our poetry stuff!

Big thank you to all the poets who came down

The One Left Behind

A new year
to all poets

Means perhaps changes
to writing paths

Different routes taken
lines to follow

When finishing off
this new challenge

It is not
always as good

As the one
we left behind.

What a great evening in Marple - you know, I just love the way we all relate to one another, despite us all being quite different: that's the joy of sharing our love of words!
Wishing one and all a blessed Christmas - and thanks to John who faithfully heads our group each month!
With love, Dorinda x

Hi Dorinda,

I hope you feel better soon.

You and all other female WOLs were missed, it was a testosterone filled room!

Next month's theme is "waves". We discussed many types of waves, not limited to nautical but energy waves, spiritual waves, the characteristics of waves etc.

Hope to see you at the December meeting. Keep warm 😃

Done Us Proud

Ugly bug ball not at all!
opening vocal cords to uplifting poetry
turning up volume came the applause

Cheering Oldknow crowd while clapping nonstop
they shouted and lifted their glasses
Stockport you have done us proud!
