The foresight of our Victorian forebears here in London to place
trees along the main thoroughfares (apparently Plane trees are
especially effective in dealing with pollution) is one of the great
British contributions towards the health of our urban areas. It is
also worth noting that a national tree-planting process has been
successful - recognising the need to replace those lost and regenerate the remaining countryside for the benefit of ALL living
creatures. Long may it continue.

1. Always worth hearing your witty ditties tied in with tunes I recall.
2. The vote was widely forecast - yet another false step on a
series of false steps designed to remove Brexit and return us
to the tender control of the EU.
3. 2nd Referendum? Does anyone remember the profligacy
involved in the government/leaflet campaign prior to the
Remain/Leave vote...making us aware of all the "dangers"
of a departure from the EU - that it was an irrevocable step
that once taken could not be reversed? How could anyone
NOT have known of what was being chosen when their votes
were cast? Mentally ill people are disallowed from voting as I
recall. Perhaps obtuse people should also be excluded.
4. If a 2nd vote IS obtained and it confirms the original vote to
leave - what then?
5. If May and her government had really wanted to obey
the majority vote to leave she/they would have sought to
commence repealing the European Communities Act 1972
and set out the terms for leaving at the outset. "Getting a
deal" is and has been just a political ploy to bring about a
scenario which points to No Deal Brexit; and that having been
decided by the engineers of this farce as unacceptable
indicates the hope that an exhausted British people will
be persuaded to return to the fond bosom of the EU.
Moral: Faint Hearts never won Fair Freedom!

This poem is an invitaton back into a world which is no more. Time has flown by with astonishing alacrity catapulting us into unchartered territory. The values of modesty and decency have almost entirely been abandoned and replaced by gratuitous pornography, rampant promiscuity and the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases sky rocket. Have we advanced as a society or regressed? Your poem leaves the reader with questions for them to answer for themselves.
Well done and thank you.

Very briefly -
It's right that we should sympathise
With those who've missed life's bus;
Yet thinking, as we avert our eyes -
Thank god that it's not us.

Every generation must experience something akin to this.
The change in social/sexual mores in my own lifetime has been
considerable, much of it positive but not always. The derided
deference was also the companion of polite consideration for others -
now both seem a distant memory in so many regrettable ways.
My parents were "middle aged" when I was born, the youngest
of a large family, and were just that to me: other-worldly figures
embracing age, experience and respect...removed from any
flights of sexual imaginings or the chance of finding contraceptives
in their possession. I grew up quicker mentally in my ability to deal
with adults but had to find my way without any modern "advice" or
"guidance". Maybe there could have been room for improvement
from what I experienced but I was able to deal with life and its
demands as a result and have no feelings of regret or resentment
about my own way through life. Good luck and good will towards
others is what I wish as I witness both the up the down sides of contemporary existence.

oh i know right, its sad seeing all this insanity going, and with the 5G people don't have a damn clue about what this technology can do or capable of....most people just think "oh faster internet, sweet". It's very sad, and if you try to tell people about it and with evidence they just brush it off and label you as a "conspiracy theorist"...

thank you guys for taking the time to read my work, I wrote this poem actually back in 2012 and its basically satire, about the invasion in the middle-east....also this was written a few months before my accident, December 29th 2012 I got ran over by a car and almost died, so my perspective on generally everything has changed since then...but my sample poem is about the accident and in one of my other poems I mention it as well....And I'm happy to see people leaving comments its much appreciated..

Strong indeed brian, passion behind the words I speak.. I will never understand how a man of god can tolerate such behavior let alone be apart of it... It baffles me.
A normal rapist ' child molester gets sent to prison and yet the so called holy man gets sent to homes that are full of unattended children..
I do know' not all are the same but when you read of the hundreds its so hard to see whos to blame when the majority all act the same.. Is it just catholics? Who knows but they hold the bar up high and yet believe they earned a right to live in the sky.. Hmmmm!!! ????

It has become quite commonplace for fellow WOLers to describe pieces as 'strong', to the extent that the description has become almost meaningless. I rarely use the word, but when I do I am totally sincere.

You will have to go some way to find a stronger piece than this.

The irony is that despite my having a grudging respect for her for trying to deliver this (which I oppose) in contrast to the double-dyed self-servers within her own party and The Invisible Man leading the Labour Party, I’m hoping for a massive defeat for her tonight, bringing the prospect of a 2nd vote one step nearer.

Tarnish not with the same brush is correct.. But because of some thy love is numb
And trust is the only issue....

For a place of comfort and feeling safe no longer lays in the home of god and has not since I was old enough to hear the troubles of many youth's.
My heart bleeds for those who suffered the abuse.

Faith in my god still stands as before whether I roam threw his door on earth
For he has giving me life trew birth ?..

Having started school in the very early 1950s I can with hindsight perfectly relate to this great piece by Julian Jordan.

Due to the recent world war anybody young, fit, and able had either been drafted into the services or was engaged in war work.
As a result the teacher shortage had been filled by bringing qualified people out of retirement.

All my teachers were easily in their seventies, which meant of course they started teaching during the reign of queen Victoria.....and didn't we know it !

Whipping, head slapping, ear pulling, knuckle-rapping with a wooden ruler etc, etc. Those women were the devil's spawn !

BUT WE SURVIVED ('though a couple of my friend's fathers never came back from the war)

All wrong doings deserve a punishment, consequences are inevitable... But its not up to man kind to act in such way.. As much as we see fit
Two wrongs do not make a right...
I love my god and all his holly angels and I always choose to see the good in people yet really struggle to see good in those who live by the word of the lord any yet commit such horrible acts.. But forgiveness is key I suppose

By the sound of what you're seeming to say Tim
February 1 will see beer/whiskey float freely down you're throat
Glug glugging away like the bathwater
There's a problem I'm just about to float

Absence of a month will then cause you
(Didn't your mates tell you this?)
A far greater hangover than verse one
I'd give up now, Tim, go on the piss. ?

Maybe stay off the whiskey.....

I could sense the emotional output behind these lines, Lisa. Whatever people on WOL will tell you, always remember that this piece deserves to be read and disseminated and not condemned.

You did extremely well with conjuring a quite profound and disturbing enough image that the thought of eye-for-an-eye sounds more and more appealing by the second.

But alas, you spoke of hoping for divine punishment so you don't have to. That has to be my favorite line of this piece. Isn't that what most humble people would hope for? For the offending predator to get hit by a bus so their children would not go without a parent?

I like to think so. Very well done.??
