The mountains we seek
The crests and peaks
Are no longer to be discovered...

We climbed mountains, summit the peaks
We went everywhere wherever the hunger seeks
After covering continents and all other lands
With a lot of praise being showered
We feel nothing is any longer to be discovered.

Engineer you are, a geologist to be precise
Dwell in your thoughts and I know you're very wise;
Close your eyes for a moment and see...
Then ask your self the very old question,
Did I miss anything in my quest for consumption?

Something is waiting to bridge the gap...
All you have to do is turn the flap.
In the womb of earth lies treasures sweet;
Awaken the mind and unfold the mystery,
You may be at the brim of making a history.

Here in these islands we are no strangers to "plagues", with earlier
centuries often combating them in quick succession. The last
of historical relevance for both cause and numbers was the Spanish
flu pandemic of 1918/19 - the spread of which was hardly restricted
by official shut-downs of information. It saw a reported total of a
quarter of a million deaths here in the UK alone, and scores of
millions across the world. it was made worse by a second wave
of infection and perhaps THIS should be a particular warning to us today. There has been a comment elsewhere on WOL about our
inter-action with other species and this can be connected with how
the Chinese and other far east nations handle and consume other
forms of life - in less than properly regulated/ controlled hygienic conditions. In that respect, the finger can be pointed in that direction.

A trenchant observation on the current health scare situation.
I am curious about the difference between the numbers who have
died directly OF this virus and those WITH the virus. In the UK,
there seems no media separation of "cause and effect" to enlarge
on public knowledge of the situation in general.
I suspect the same is happening elsewhere.

cheers Ray - it's weird where these NapoWriMo prompts take you - this was an actual dream I had many years ago - and it was both comforting and threatening in equal measure. The older man is me looking back on it now - so I've added a fourth character to the dream ? Hope you are well mate ?

Jennifer
Thank you for your positive feedback. Poetry is observation of life unfolding. Twists and turns in ones own life experiences result in different endings to the same themes. Some look back with joy others with regret and both are real emotions.
Enjoyed reading your 2019 work "Regrets"
Same theme different experiences

did not know that about the Western

Wasn't that strange.
Yes, the Bluebonnet is our state flower
and in the springtime, they bloom all over in great seas of blue!

Great insights as alway Po. I learned that lesson many moons ago, one can only be healed when they do the internal mind, body, and spirit work necessary to heal. Healers can only light the path from their own journey.

A sense of the unknown pervades this with its background of familiarity to the poet, and gives us an ache for resolution. It reminds me of a cinematic distancing effect, especially as the subsequent experience is still in the past. The cleverness of it is in the unresolved wonder. A powerful piece of writing Ian. I crave good poetry and you don't disappoint. I first read of the ginnel in Alan Bennett's autobiography. These alleys I have explored myself on my musical jaunts, one in particular in Brighouse near the canal. Super all round.
Stay safe!

Your comment leads me to mention that our professions were
in our passports (lodged at the hotel) and we thought ourselves to
be likely "targets" for Russian interest in those Cold War times. But
awareness was with us at all times - as it should be with anyone
(like Trump for example) who has a position that places him/her
in range of any "honey trap" undertaken by security services in
lands with limited freedoms but excessive paranoia. It's suspected
that body doubles have been used to embarrass those who become
official targets for whatever reason within Russia itself. Cue - the
likelihood of the practice being extended to serve a purpose.

dk - I recall that in the Western film "Open Range", the character
played by Robert Duvall admitted to his trail partner (Kevin Costner)
- when both were faced with imminent death in a gunfight - that his given name was actually "Bluebonnet". Now I know its origin, I see
more clearly why the admission caused mirth from the hard-bitten Costner character at that moment. I thought it to be just a fancy name.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone visiting Russia would be caught
that way. Back in the 70s, along along with a pal of those days, I
took a trip to Leningrad and stayed at the Hotel Moskva beside the
River Neva - with a view over the river to the battlecruiser Aurora
(fired the shot that heralded the 1917 October Revolution). We
had fun in our hotel room, speaking loudly in praise of the city
and how the Germans could never have hoped to defeat the spirit
of the Russian people - assuming someone somewhere would be
either listening or watching.
