Balancing The Ledger

The world is changing,
And in these strange days our ways hint at fearful fall of man,
There’s a silent killer that stalks the streets and leaves them empty since its reign began,
And it grips at the hearts and lungs of the world starving them of breath,
Choking the life out of those worst affected in a muffled shroud of death,
And people have died,
While some who could have warned us made a different choice and lied,
And the weight of every single body bag should hang heavy on their soul,
For every life they could have saved, for every hope they stole,
Well beware liars, and all those who valued politics over lives,
Who stood before their people and offered no regret,
Because when this is all over, all those that have survived,
Will hold your actions to account, and you can bet we won’t forget.

To be honest you're right, it's not necessarily directed at any one leader, party, country in particular. It's more a case of, we all sit at home now with plenty of time to think. Where it came from, who knew, how they handled it, how many lives they thought it worth sacrificing to keep economies going, the people for instance that suggested that health workers were selling PPE through the back door etc, and we should watch, and we should think, and should remember, all of the good, all of the bad, and all of those, that when this is over will want our vote, or want us to but there goods and services, and they should know that we're watching, really really closely, and they should never forget, that we will always remember.

Here in these islands we are no strangers to "plagues", with earlier
centuries often combating them in quick succession. The last
of historical relevance for both cause and numbers was the Spanish
flu pandemic of 1918/19 - the spread of which was hardly restricted
by official shut-downs of information. It saw a reported total of a
quarter of a million deaths here in the UK alone, and scores of
millions across the world. it was made worse by a second wave
of infection and perhaps THIS should be a particular warning to us today. There has been a comment elsewhere on WOL about our
inter-action with other species and this can be connected with how
the Chinese and other far east nations handle and consume other
forms of life - in less than properly regulated/ controlled hygienic conditions. In that respect, the finger can be pointed in that direction.

Hi Jason. Tend to agree with KJ about the finger pointing! It wasn't taken seriously in the beginning, even in Europe. here in Italy 80 doctors have died!

Another masterclass
Like Brian I liked the rhyme and the message, but I assumed the finger was pointed a little closer to home.
You don't really say who you accuse, so the reader can draw his/her own conclusions

I like the poem Jason...the rhyme and the message.

I assume the finger is being pointed at China. Will Western democracies become anti-China? Maybe, but we'll stillcontinue to buy all their cheap goods I have no doubt.
