Yes, that was the case when we lived near Selby, Stephen; the last one was about 5pm. We did however manage to roll up two inconveniences into parallel. The road was closed for 18 months to make repairs to flood damage, so all buses stopped coming through our village. But in any event Covid meant I wouldn’t have wanted to get on one anyway.
And thanks for the Like, Stephen A and Pete.

I think the fancy cooking took far too long to make an impact (until about 2010 in fact). A statute of limitations may be needed.

I have an "omnium" pass for over-65s, which is very cheap and is valid 24 hours per day. The trouble is there are hardly any buses where I live.

It's good to have a specialism
I've recently started a lawn care company. Our adverts clearly state that we only do lawns. But half of the enquiries we get are asking for other services.
I bet the gulley and gutters guy gets asked to jetwash drives, and clean other things.
Nice write by the way
Cheers Kevin

Personally, I think that if the present is accountable for the past we should claim apology and compensation from France for the Norman Invasion, the imposition of a royal lineage and associated class system, the prostitution of the Old English language and culture and fancy cooking.
Why not?

Stephen - We don't know everything Ozzy does in private. Maybe he's growing veg and drinking cocoa.
John - do you get a government grant to do that (at least until George Osborne - no relation - cut it?)
KJ - Enjoy the cocoa but watch out for Reg, or quad bikes.
MC - Perhaps 'Count Mozart and Haydn among their tastes'?

As I approach that landmark age, i can recognise much of what
is set down here. Can't agree about Berg and Stravinksy though, much preferring more melodious uplifting stuff to sooth the
mental processes. Spare me discordant jarring interruptions to
my hard-earned peace of mind!

I still wait for an answer to my question posed six years ago.
Today's "poetry world" seems to consist of a self-satisfied
set of literary luvvies busily engaged in extending and endorsing each other's stuff, far removed from the world at large. I would
like to be proved wrong but where is that promise of immortality?

Each era has to confront injustice on its own terms and via its
own definitions. Any fixation on "a person of colour" - with its assertion that these occupy some solo place in somehow
being singled out for ill-treatment needs careful dispassionate
consideration. It is too easy to manipulate to arouse personally
held prejudice that cares not to admit its own presence for a variety of reasons. and purposes. Perception is not reality, it is
as much the creation of an artificial reality to suit an agenda
which in itself is a distortion that is dangerous to the well-
being of society. We must be on our guard to ensure a rational
response at all levels...irrespective of race, colour, creed or
social position.

I think that this poem makes a valid point. Laws change, and what was acceptable and the norm in days gone by, are not so now.
It doesn't mean that things were right back in the day, just that they were legal.
There are calls for pay-back, and some kind of retribution. I don't think that that is possible after so many generations. But somehow it seems wrong that there are still people benefiting from the dealings of their ancestors.

But maybe not so much, if you are a person of colour. And if that was then, this is now - US police officers are perceived as operating their own kind of 'lynch law' against black people, in this day and age, provoking demonstrations and sometimes riots. And UK police still harass black people unjustly, on a regular basis, despite riots in the past.

Perhaps every age is guilty of presentism, MC. It's a kind of historical self-flagellation which, in my view, is quite silly.

The comments are very much to the point. I am in favour of space exploration for scientific purposes (which it hasn't always been, I agree) but I believe that the current vanity expeditions send a worrying message that money came somehow (at least in some unspecified future) buy your way out of Earth's problems. Let's hope the billionaires decide to invest in something other than their own ego.
Thanks once again.

Freedom and its interpretation are surely always relevant to circumstance,. That said, any "official" move to curtail it must be controlled with utmost care. All governments like to obtain

Einstein said
"Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution."
I think somewhere in the midst of this poem is the very essence of that statement.
The closing of the poem is defiance incorporated, the line;
'til incantation drains away and starts to dig itself a grave
to me is magnificent, that even in the process of our demise we play an active part until the lights finally extinguish..and even then it really isn't quite over.
So much to like here, imparted in a tone which suggests a poet who has matured via a vigorous process of lived experience.
