Barely a arms throw away
from where you walked
the lights holds it own
to the darkness
leading to another world

oiling over the distance
like a door nailed open
at the edge of the forest
blowing a soft tease of a kiss
at the edge of your thoughts

peeling the darkness from behind
in a beauty in near silence
cherry-picking the moment
leading a different way out
to the way you entered.

(Fourth in a short series of poems wrote in response to haunting photographs by my friend Benjamin Thomas Holton. Benjamin or Ben to me is also in the Rural ambient indie band Epic 45 who have produced numerous albums, some of which are available on https://digital.waysideandwoodland.com/)

Thanks for the comment, Nigel. I wrote these four as a response to my friends pictures taking myself into another world without meaning to really.

peeling the darkness from behind
