snitched - what a great word it's exactly what they do, sort of sneaky stealing. As an English republican, married to a much sterner Irish republican, I haven't an ounce of sympathy for the money-grabbing ex-royals now flogging bit-coin, or so i hear. So many otherwise sensible English people have a soft spot for the 'Royals' (including my 89 year old mum) Gawd knows why. John

You swept me along in your alter-ego voice Mr Tom. Today, I failed to rescue a fledgling sparrow from Mollie, my tortoiseshell she cat. She is a bastard and no mistake but I still love her.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.”
― T.S. Eliot, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats

How interesting John - what did it mean when they yelled 'Avast behind' (just kidding) Gosh, pity the toe rags - pleased to hear they weren't recycled for the washing up afterwards. 'Spice the main brace' and all that. The navy had a thing about the use of the word 'square' since it was also used to describe an order of dress such as a 'square' rig, and I think I also remember its use for how sails should be unfurled in 'square rigger'. No doubt somebody else on WOL knows the answer. P. ?

Abdul,
After the anguish of Brexit and this accursed virus you take us out to where neither of these problems bears any significance into a landscape of natural charm which transports us into a new world of renewal. A poem of hope.
Thank you for this,

Concurrent thoughts ranging from the mundane to the academic. This is a poem, the content of which, I similarly indulge in: and I thought I was a little odd.
A very good poem John.

Hi All
Having been battling with a dreadful cough for weeks, I'm feeling quite out of touch! Loved reading all your lockdown poems though!
Here's mine:
This lethagy
is bugging me.
I fear this lockdown is to blame
And think will life ever be the same?
The blank page it is mocking me,
I never thought that I would see
Pencil, redundant, by my side,
The inspiration's all but died!
Call from a long-lost friend: that call
Says life's worth living, after all!
Tomorrow, despairing thoughts shall cease:
I'll write a sparklind masterpiece!
Love from Dorinda x

Hi Martin
I love that this spreads hope instead of fear.
There is so much fear around at the moment that it's easy to forget we can still have, and bring hope to others.
Great stuff mate.

Hi Martin
A fantastic Poem that expresses perfectly the state of our ghostlike towns and cities at this point in history.
An eerily effective ending also with the Harrods window displaying gratitude for our amazing NHS rather than the latest commercial trend.

Really it's our dad's fault
For causing all this fuss
Mum and I just looker-ons
It's not the fault of us

I've told the Covid family
Poet me that is
Our scientists will quick put him straight
Cos it's their line of biz
You could've made this a separate blog poet.......

I have now read two of your works.
You are a poet and a seasoned one.
Great writing. Glad you're here. although a selfish comment to make,
I feel my own works has found a kindred home and will sit well with other works such as your own.
This one speaks of pain, the obvious quest for transcendence to a higher plain..............only to have some bugga piss on your bonfire.
great works Abruvanamedsly.
