The Intrusion

The Intrusion

Juxtaposed with the dutiful arrival of Spring

bringing garlands of heavenly bouquets

We slumber in a permanent fear

of a plague whose rampant character

lies beyond the control of any man

Forget me nots bloom in the shade of a tree

daisies and dandelions grow wild in the fields

Hastily constructed hospitals await the infected

mortuaries receive unprecedented numbers

We remain calm, confined to home and garden

where we pass the time, mowing lawns

bedding plants as music comes from a nearbly window

It all seems so surreal, irreconcilable

Fearful and confused we rediscover lost skills and habits

sit once more before the piano or read a book

Solitude is no threat to our life but a blessing

The plague invades our very existence

Together Spring and Plague will play their role

in bringing about a people wiser and more resilient

I am with Hannah on this one Keith. An excellent juxtaposition of spring and the virus. the great thing about these poems in the now is that they are real life reflections of the present

Nice one

Hi Keith
Well done on a piece that actually gives us a glimmer of hope amongst all this madness.

Fabulous last stanza too

Like the optimism and positive thinking contained in the poem. It is strange that it happened in very early spring when we usually heave a sigh of relief that winter is nearly over at last.

Kevin,

Thank you for your comment. I believe that all of life’s adversities eventually abate leaving us anew and more resolute to continue with life. A neighbour recently said to me that it would blow over. At the time she was heading to the local supermarket wearing her home made mask.

I like the optimism at the end of this one Keith.
Solitude is no threat to our life but a blessing
I'm sure we'll come through this stronger for the experience.

Keith a dilemma indeed.

It is ironic that the plague arrived in spring.

A time of hope as nature reawakens.

Be assured the lurgy will meet its end in time.

The contrast between the beauty of Spring and the darkness of the virus is very real here in this poem, with a great deal of hope at the end.

Wasn't there something about the Ten Plagues of Israel written about somewhere. The recurring blight of human kind I guess - much to our distress of course. Where would be without WOL and getting our thoughts out there into the arena. P ?
