To me this is not poetry. It is like the page out of a book. I'm not even enticed to begin. It is far too long. But that's just me.

Dear All,
Thank you for your comments which nearly all included the word minimalism. I suppose they thought they had reached some point of design purity when in actual fact they produced a blandness which has not stood the test of time. When I compare the room I describe with my own sitting room I know where I would rather spend my time. A room festooned with pictures and portraits, a piano, endless book shelves and ornaments galore with table lamps and a magnificent standard lamp not to mention a fire screen which can be converted into a card table. Death to minimalism. Long live clutter.

I thought that the idea of downsizing the Royals was already being discussed especially after Andrew, and that maybe they were going before they were pushed, however the media reports it to us that they were wanted.
They would have been good for keeping the family image up to date and giving multicultural representation, but I think they will end up becoming some sort of Common wealth ambassadors in the end.

Ruth,
Who on earth are you referring to? I'll try and guess. With freedom comes responsibility. The Queen exemplifies this. The two your poem refers to have let themselves down, their families and all those well wishers who cheered so loudly at their marriage. Life is not about getting on one's bike and cycling off into the blue, it has more to do with mutual respect, earning a living and paying one's bills and being faithful to those who have placed their trust in you. As someone once said, "it will all end in tears".
An emotive subject which is very topical and I am sure your poem will reflect this.

Ray...within a few years my grammar school went from top school in the borough to near the bottom as political dogma converted it to a comprehensive, with intake from its local catchment area. Not housing yet as far as I know, though I expect the 2nd year boys have done their best to raze it to the ground. Can't really complain as it made me the educated man wot I is today.

Many thanks, Ray. Wrote it after a visit to Iceland in 2012, but tweaked it recently. It was a great thrill to stumble upon its twin in Hull, but the Vik statue is in a far more atmospheric setting. Fish, eh? And volcanoes.

Hi Cynthia, it was very nice to read your comment about my profile. I have been off the site lately, but you teased me out again. EFIT is the method of getting likenesses for crime identification shown to witnesses etc. which replaced PHOTOFIT consisting of lots of pieces of a face overlaid based on their description. I think that was an older method pre digital age. In my case I used it as an illustration of conforming to expectations . I hope that is a help!
