Thanks V, Tom & Don for reading and commenting.

Whether it is from personal experience or not is not the point. We all long for romance, love, and to be desired.

As for the ‘confirmation’ - it’s the unspoken confirmation that hits you the hardest.

INVITATION

Several months ago I began an experiment to see how far I could stretch my imagination. Like Lewis Carroll who fell down a rabbit hole and created the Madhatters Tea Party, I also fell down a rabbit hole and created the Like-Mnders Theme Park .

Currently, 18 WOL poets (overcome with curiosity) have fallen down the hole to discover a virtual playground of fun and offbeat poetry awaiting them. Many of our invited poets do not belong to WOL and are grateful for the opportunities LMS offers them.

A high-tech Rollercoaster (equipped with onboard bar and Barlady Thalia - who doubles as bellringer) transports Like-Minders (so-named because they think like me) around the Park to stops of offbeat poetical interest, such as the Traditional Poets Stamping Ground, Writers Corners, Propper Spelling Centre, Mental Health Centre and Toilet Stop (essential to any self-respecting theme park). At each stop invited poets present their work. I initially I had trouble getting high quality Toilet Poets. All a bit shitty for LMS standards. All sorted now. Seems I wasn't looking in high-grade poetry sites.

If you'd like to join in this experiment please contact me

This is an interesting write Mika. Whenever someone writes like this you never know if they are writing about themselves, someone they know or a collective body. Only the poet knows, and has the right to retain the know

As you say you wrote it

'For all the married couples missing their days of romance'

whether, you, me. or anyone else.......

Ruth

The 'problem' is that I read the paper every day and Boris keeps continually popping up. It is the most interesting ways he pops up that stimulates Thalia and I into poetic action. A serious leader being fodder for our WOL contributions..... Funny 'bout that. Trump also. Funny 'bout that also.....Like two Ronnies across the lake ...

I read headlines in one of your papers 'Boris will get Brexit done in a week'. I looked everywhere but couldn't see which year they were meaning.......

I was struck by the simplicity of language you used Mika to describe a simple everyday phenomenon.. Simple, but artistic language. Why should I think anything less? You are a poet.

'How lucky I am to be a witness'. How many are blind to this beauty? Yes indeed, we should count ourselves lucky. Maybe poets are more aware of surrounding beauty? And give thanks for this......

I'm pleased it works for you Tom:

' but I find trying to recall my poems line by line is a fast and effective way to fall back to sleep'

If I recycle round my rhymes
When I hop in my bed
My neurons go speed up lots more
Muck up my silly head

Or recall your lines
Maybe I'm reading the wrong poet?....

...Why do sinners’ ways prosper? and why must
Disappointment all I endeavour end?

Them; birds build—but not I build; no, but strain,
Time’s eunuch, and not breed one work that wakes.
Mine, O thou lord of life, send my roots rain.

This debate fascinates me.

Some ecossystems are used to fires, they've evolved with them.

Just because a tree regenerates after a fire, doesn't mean that a really big fire is inocuous.

The scale, frequency and impact of events is getting, and will get, worse.

I, too, cannot understand the lack of concern and urgency I see in the world.

You cannot change it, it's too late already - this is happening to the world, now.

Just because we will be wiped from this planet in the end, does not mean we should all do what we can to hasten that end.

I acknowledge, though, that one of the great aspects of life is that we share opinions, and I know I don't agree with everyone, and vice versa.

So, I respect all opinions. I just don't agree!

Rich, you are spot on here!

So many people are in denial about our negative impact on the planet (and just in denial of basic observable science in general).

I have been working on something similar recently but it's not ready to share yet. Like you, I want to stick the irrefutable facts and not get caught up in the denier's game of semantics. We can't 'save the planet' from its ultimate fate - but we can certainly curb the impact of mankind which is accelerating the planet's poisoning. I honestly don't understand anyone who is still in denial about this.

As Don says; It's not too late to care. And it's not too late to try.

Although this latest load of fires have been far greater than the annual forest fire season that Australia usually experiences, few appreciate that the trees do regenerate. I was astonished to see the effects on wild land close to my son's house in 2003 fully regenerated in 2008.

And remember how nature produces new sprouts from the scorched
earth -reminding me of lines from a memorable Binyon poem about
rot and corruption going to the fire....to be born anew.
Fire has alway been synonymous with nature's ultimate cleansing power. .

A little "proof reading" to get things rights shouldn't be confined to poetry or politics.
I have just acquired a DVD of a film starring, among other bright
names of Hollywood's past, Donald O'Connor. Remember his great
turn in "Singing in the Rain"? Well, on the cover, his name above the
title is "Donald O'Connel"!. If he were alive now, he would be justifiably miffed! ?
