Very profound, Holden. Taking a wider perspective makes us see events differently.
"greed for happenings... spill some blood and then some ink."
As usual, you made me think! 😎

Thank you Stephen! I am new to expressing myself through words, and this platform has always prompted me to develop this art everyday.
And, also, it might not be so bleak, as what follows these lines is-
I know,
Romance is a butterfly,
Too fickle to stay.
Fly in, and flit away.
I know.
I hope,
Love is like the moon,
Always there, might be seen or not.
Smiles, one day, might also say a lot.
I hope.
Once again, thanks for your observations!

The use of jingles in advertising certainly proves your point about
how music can influence our conscious minds. And, never fear,
I did enjoy your basic humorous point about the effect of "lurve" songs on our sensibilities. I even recall a well known operatic
tenor saying a favourite song was "Some Enchanted Evening"!

"If the end comes" is a beautiful and important poem. We need more poets like Antony Owen.

Thanks, Greg. A sign of the times - I received an e-mail from my garage telling me how to wash the Sahara dust off the car to avoid scratching it. Not sure what the priorities will be when other kinds of dust arrive.

Another fine poem, John. Beautiful love songs really do have a beguiling quality, which makes them difficult to resist. Mozart's Don Giovanni, for instance, although his are really lust songs!

Greg, thanks for coming on this little trip to Greenland with me 😃 Same to you John.
To me it feels natural that, of all the places to be haunted, it would be a place of such haunting beauty. I hope the person in the poem managed to find some peace of mind there.
Thanks for reading!

MC. A really fascinating commentary which is clearly true. Thank you! What I intended was a wry, tongue in cheek look at the genre.
Like advertising, songs can influence how we think and behave. 😊

Interesting topic. I have written a few myself and had them
recorded for (primarily) my own pleasure. The best come
from years ago and remain as relevant now as they ever were
because they were written by those with talent for the genre
plus that essential life experience that makes any such song
worth attention. Some of the titles alone are worth our time:
"The Night We Called It A Day""/ "Bewitched, Bothered and
Bewildered"/ "I've Got You Under My Skin"/"Stardust" - and so many more gems of popular music that never lose their lustre.
Sinatra remains, for me, their matchless interpreter with
his unique vocal tone - honey with that dash of sourmash to
remind us that all is not "hearts and flowers" in this life. His
album "In The Wee Small Hours" is as good an example of
popular music at its very best as can be found anywhere and
shows us that "pop" doesn't have to mean "slop"!

Yes love songs are often written by young people but wiser heads are sometimes more sceptical and hard nosed through bad experiences. Does the writer simply want light airy fun words to fit a happy tune or a more thoughtful reflective piece? 😂
Great poem John. Still making us think!! 🥰🥰

Thanks, John. I appreciate your kind comment. There is a school of though which says that the past and future do not matter, as the only time which counts is the present. Therefore, history is bunk and science fiction is, well, fiction. A sad view, I think.

Thanks for the interesting comments, John and MC.
Sadly, John, we don't seem to have moved forward. History seems to repeat itself. Strangely, there may be some debate about Beethoven's last, as I read that his (previously non-existent) 10th Symphony was recreated by computer. So maybe those kids knew something. 😀
MC, Yes, I agree with you on the 5th. But Shostakovich as the 20th century's greatest composer? A decent shot, I think.
The attached performance by a youth orchestra is not perfect but I think it shows the energy of the piece (written just after Stalin's death) as well as its difficulty.
