I changed
"Cull the night away"
To
"Cull the night army"
That's because the latter represents how I feel better.

This was inspired by one of those ambulance/hospital documentaries which depicted a similar event. Overworked carers & lonely, vulnerable pensioners. Enhanced over the winter season
Thank you very much for the comments Julie, Rose & John, and Jennifer, I know exactly what you mean. Concentration becomes a slippery skill! And thank you very much Brenda, Tom, Stephen & Leon, and yes, it was the Devil's wallpaper! 🌈🌷🌷

You’re welcome, Uilleam. It doesn’t do to become too hide-bound by the formula, though. For example’ I treated her one year to a new vacuum cleaner.
And thanks for the Like, Holden.

But why the need for order?
Indeed, it just makes my brain hurt thinking about it!
Ok, here's my take on time.
There isn't any such "thing".
It doesn't exist.
I don't care what Professor Georgeous Guy wotsit sez on telly.
Time is the feeling I get in my brain between my pint dissappearing through the hole in the top of my glass, and it filling up again, which it does in NO TIME at all....thanks to Emmanuelle, Emeritus Professor at the University of Life!

From coldness, austerity and frugality we are taken to warmth, tenderness and hope. A poem richly descriptive and evocative of life's seasons and the hope and continuity which comes with Spring.
A pleasure to read.
Thank you for this

Thank you Keith for your detailed view. I appreciate your opinion over the matter.
Not all wealthy and powerful are bad. We have examples of zulqarnain, king David/ dawood alaihis salam and King Solomon/ prophet Sulaiman peace be upon him. They were wealthy and powerful but used their wealth and power as per God's will and therefore were very successful.
This poem only shows the pros n cons and leaves the reader to take heed or still find faults in the poet for showing the mirror. Some people just don't want to be told good things. They get offended and start abusing out of utter frustration.
But Keith you always take my poems in the right spirit. You have a clean soul and a broad mind.
Thanks Keith.🌷

Very nostalgic for the old days. Don't much like the Christmas attitude now, just pressure on people to spend and spend and spend. Of course in one's own family one can do as one wishes, friends and relations, and presents mainly for the children.Enjoy cooking, (and eating) the special food and having all the family together, also decorating the home. Lovely poem

So well described, with compassion, but seeing also the tragedy of it all. Find even now, being pretty ancient have to concentrate on what I'm doing!!! Rather alarming. Perhaps better in our grandparents' day when they didn't often get this far. remember as a child, being taken to see an 'Uncle Charlie' who was 80, in a wheel chair and presented as a king of holy relic! Definitely frightening.

Really got inside the head of this person, while giving him a voice.
So important, it's very easy to observe the behaviour and forget the anguish of the individual.

Thank you, Leon. Yes, I did and enjoyed it, like many films of the British new wave. Apart from Tom, a sterling cast including a young James Bolam, a slightly bewildered John Thaw and Arthur 'In the new plarstic bottle' Mullard.
And thanks as ever to Frederick, Rose, Keith, Jennifer, Uilleam, Rudyard, K Lynn and Bethany for your support.

oh yes Stephen I remember those prefab quick fixes to the war damaged problem. Did you ever see Tom Courtney in
' Loneliness of the long distance runner ' ( fab film ) portraying prefab life?
I could watch that film and any others of his until I wore my eyes out, such a great actor, the likes of which are rarely seen nowadays-yep! very good poem

Thanks Bethany and Keith. Every year I am still amazed at the beauty of the lime trees. They go a most incredible lemon yellow, as you will prob have guessed!, and on warm summer nights the scent of the flowers fills the whole area. Don't remember many in my Scottish childhood, perhaps they don't like the cold. Thanks again.
