This poem speaks insightfully about the nature of guilt-projection.
On a personal note, I hate fishing and I'm scared of the sea and I love everything about this poem. It's cheeky and fun, but very clever indeed. đ·

A poem that is rich in vocabulary, imagery and description. I like how it speaks of the changing seasons and how we take time getting adjusted to another season. I am a summer person as well, so I can relate to this well crafted line - "I lament the passing of the summer."
Thank you for this.

Ray - I recall mention that he suffered from "nerves" and that
would certainly supply a reason for partaking of the drink. There
have been other notable acts who have had the same problem.
With that in mind, perhaps it's amazing he reached the age he did.

I like this, Rick. Packed with detail and imagery. There is still time (just) to reverse global heating. As you say, it is vital that we meet net zero and much sooner than 2050.
The children of today can't just be told to wait and see what happens.

I had the pleasure of doing a week with Mike Yarwood in the eighties and he was the most pleasurable and nice man into the bargain. Rubber faced, silken voiced and kind. Sadly the drink spoke too often to him and he would go off piste and lose his place in the flow but of course come back to it.

The mystery remains. Indeed.
I recall the description of someone undergoing a hospital operation who had an out of body experience whilst "dying" -
and having been brought back, was able to tell the surgeon
of his experience. The doc was sceptical but nonplussed when
his patient described the use of a surgical instrument that the
surgeon had brought late to the operation AFTER the patient
had been anaesthetized.
There's so much we don't know and it seems that life itself can
be a series of stages of awareness and acceptance for what follows beyond this "mortal coil".

Whilst the climate is undoubtedly subject to change, the main issue is how much is effected by human industrial activity.
Scientists get public funding and politicians like to consort with
"experts" to extend their control so the connection is worthy of
close attention. Scientists per se are not agreed on the subject
and haven't been from the outset. The subject and climate
"events" now get 24/7 coverage that wasn't around in other
times so we are constantly told of weather events across the
world and shown their results. One type that is "media rare",
although it is a very frequent occurrence: volcanic eruptions !
Above AND below the seas. The huge effects they must have
are rarely mentioned /deemed newsworthy. Strange indeed, in the present climate (no pun intended), In the meantime, let
humanity as a whole concentate on cleaning up its act across
the globe, no bad thing at any time ! đ

Years ago we didn't call them white goods but we knew where to get them when we needed them...the gas showroom or the MEB. Order something, wait six weeks, be in when the goods were due, fume when the man didn't turn up, you get the picture. Though if it was pictures you wanted it was Rumbelows or Redifusion.

I had to read this several times to understand every line and every small detail. Every line just elevates to another meaningful line. I like the questions raised -
"Would we be caught up in some ethereal realm?
Or would we face an abrupt finality with no future?
Could it be that we merely step from one stone to another,
a momentary shift of time into a new and different dimension?"
And I liked the probable answer to it, or perhaps the only answer - "The mystery remains."
Thank you for this masterpiece, Keith.
With your permission, I'd like to save this to read in the future.

Ray,
This poem forms the words of a lament I often murmur when another appliance goes wrong and needs fixing or a replacement. The life of span of most products is limited so that we are forever having to pay and pay again for what is delliberately designed to fail at some point after its purchase.
Thank you for this,
Keith

It's an easy target to take every opportunity to bash Britain, but we should acknowledge the great events we put on such as the GNR, and to remember we are one of the greatest countries in the world. That's why people risk their lives to come here.

Thanks for your comments, Graham and Stephen. Whenever I go for an outing in my adopted land these days, I feel I have to write a poem about it. There was nothing dour about the race itself, Graham, I can assure you. But the contrast with its aftermath was something you just had to write a poem about. We were near the Start and left early, so escaped the deluge. Our son, who took part, was not so fortunate.
