Thanks Keith and Greg. Love your comments. Glad it stimulated some reminiscence, Greg.
Well, I had to do something on the beach, so I wrote a poem, as you do! ๐

Ah, Sheringham ... where summer turned to winter, missing out autumn, during one holiday week for us. Next year, Crete, which was too bloody hot! Loved to watch the trains pass on the nearby embankment as we sheltered indoors from the rain. Lovely poem, John.

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius is a profound book and worth reading despite its age. I would agree he was probably the wisest of Romans as a philosopher but my hero will always be Hadrian.
Thanks again John

John,
A poem of relationships at various stages but the last line caught my attention and somehow summed up all what had gone before. Life is so very tenuous and we should learn to grasp every moment as if it were our last especially with those we love. How I would love to turn back the clock and spend more time with my father. Thank you for this

Thank you Holden, KL, Stephen and Keith. Marcus Aurelius was, in my opinion, the wisest of the Romans:
"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love."
Marcus Aurelius

I would just like to say that for a couple in the Autumn years so much engaged in the poetry publishing world there is a decided Spring in their step, and the enthusiasm is a wonderful infusion considering the gravity of the current economic and health situation that we all find ourselves in. Poetry is a voice that should never be silenced and the likes of Donall and Janice are part of that. Hail unto them both.

A poem which expresses the mood which is prevalent in the country at this time, if not throughout the world. The last line of the poem echoes what many other recent poets have mentioned. People are perplexed by the injustices that are now so prominent. Your poem well describes the age we live in.
Thank you for this.

I'm sorry to hear that you're making plans to meet your maker JC. I have it on good authority that there are separate heavens and in the once that you're heading to it is permanently 1961/2. However, it might be difficult for you to get a game as the greats still like to turn out.
They do however have a vacancy for someone to dress up as the team's mascot!!
Keep breathing in and out John! We need you.

Intimacy and friendship juxtaposed. A poem from a heart that regrets but at the same time has few regrets; a longing for more. The heated passion of love or a fling often has an emotional residue which we are left to pick up the pieces from. A poem from an unfulfilled heart. Well written.
Thank you for this

Thank you for your comment Keith, this is a very simple poem - no hidden meaning which I suppose is unfashionable- it reflects my love of walking 'off the beaten track' with my beloved collies (long gone)and is one of my 'close to the earth' poems.

Thank you for all the likes as they are much appreciated. Thank you to Flyntland, Ghazala and Graham for their valuable comments. Ghazala we are promised the second coming of Christ at the end of time and many believe that we are living in those end times here and now. I also believe this. Graham thank you for your words of wisdom as I too am increasingly of the opinion that it is better to sit back and let it all happen as in reality I cannot change an iota.
Again thank you to all

A poem which speaks of the fullness of nature where man combined with nature can bring about such a clear manifestation of where nature and art do truly meet. The poem is also a reminder of past generations who in their generosity planted and planned what they knew they would never see nor reap. Selfless creators indeed.

Superb. I love the words "transient unstable compulsions somehow sacred maybe from another time a resonance". In this poem I feel a sense of the original creation and a reaction to it. Maybe I am mistaken but still impressed with the quality of thought given to it.
