This act would likely finish his career.
Why would it finish his career?

I think you are on to something here, Tom. The emptyness and strange freedom of early morning is very special, although in my case the temptation to lie in is always there!

It's a sad day for this country when a government can be so out of touch with the plight of its people, that it thinks it ok to roll out a budget like that.
Yes it does rather take us into the realm of science fiction - it's so ghastly , it's unbelievable.

Thanks John, that feels so much like a thumbs up as in the writing and the building up to write, I distinctly recall those selfsame feeling of being fascinated and disconcerted in turn and simultaneously. Just glad that kernel remained discernible in its final form. Most obliged, Frederick.

Thank you to Massoud and Holden for taking the time to read and like.
Thank you Stephen - it is a poem that arrived unbidden and flew onto the page - it coincided with Putin raising the spectre of conscription and the mass exodus of young men 'who didn't choose to die'

My thanks to Flyntland and Greg for the comments and to Nigel, Holden, John B, Julie and Pete for the likes.
I don't usually post poems on UK politics but this 'difficult decisions' mantra is so crass that I felt the urge to respond.
I liked your definition, Flyntland. I suppose that she's laughing all the way to the bank(ers).
This does smack of desperation, Greg. A lot of post-Brexit departures.

Thanks folks for the likes; Nigel, Frederick, Graham, Jennifer, Stephen, Holden and Flyntland.
Thanks Stephen. This is one of those where I was dwelling on human nature as often I do. I always believe that people's motivations are often unconscious and so a secret to them, so I like to probe my own to give reason where none is forthcoming. That may sound harsh I know.
Always a pleasure to hear from you Laura and to garner a response both thoughtful and to my mind complimentary. I refer you to my response to Stephen's comment.
Cheers Greg, that's the third poem in a series it seems, along with so many others. Glad it found favour.

"Difficult decisions" what she really meant were decisions that make other people's lives more difficult.

Thanks John. Should preciseness be the deal of the day it is also scary as what or how little/much does it take to become imprecise in our analogies?! Suffice to say it is gladdening to know this is deemed "very clever." Cheers!
