Thanks Stu for your comparison! I checked out the lyrics - nice. Sad ending, and I think mine was trying to point out the basic pointlessness of arriving in a self important place.

One of the better uses for prose in poetry - succinctly
capturing the delight of snowfall and its inevitable
aftermath.

Not a UK habit but the deed is well caught in these lines -
with a nice "lift" in the final verse.

This is fabulous! Love 'a mazing absurd joke' and 'my fashions tidally follow' with tongue-in-cheek flair.

(Could you tone down the size a bit, maybe? My eyeballs are throbbing, and actually struggling to take in the words.)

Stu, you are one outstanding writer, with a throat grip like a killing wrestler. It must be difficult to have a mind so varied and so active, so probing - all the time. And then, your imagination turns words into skeins of imagery that are completely captivating.

I wonder how easy you are to live with. Even with yourself. Such intensity.

I really like this. Thoughtful and powerful. It's so good, will you check the second line, 'who've have forgot' to see if you might say it more clearly, because I'm not at all sure what you wanted. I think you might mean 'who have forgotten'.

Always with respect.

I love this. The repetition of certain words works really well and the images blend into each other almost as if we are standing in silently swirling snow. The white of the snow and swan and mist is neatly juxtaposed with the bloody red rose petals. Very, very good Mahika. Welcome to WoL. All the best. Colin.

this is a delightful poem Tom and one that sends the reader off into the parts of the landscape that are overlooked and unseen from footpaths and byways. Often there is a reason we don't go there - nothing much to see but the 'limits of the field' - but there your man has found a quiet spot for contemplation and communing with nature. Marvellous. And well done on POTW btw. All the best. Col.

Hugh/Keith - most appreciative of your comments. It may
be me but there are times when I feel there is some
orchestrated campaign to keep us in a constant state of
agitation and feel somehow responsible for everything
that is going on in the world today...perhaps a part of
the "globalisation" that is such a popular feature of news
items these days.

Hi Keith
You don't tell us who this guy is or what his crime was (rightly so).
You speak as though you are in a dilemma (not knowing whether or not to visit him) but I think your mind is already made up. Because of your religious beliefs and kind hearted nature, you will go. You will offer some kind of forgiveness and comfort, then you yourself will carry some of his burden.

Life is so much easier when you are like me, and have a heart of stone..

Hi Brian. Your'e right there, but I'd rather say that i'm not happy for him, as I don't subscribe to that way of life, so I portrayed him as more of a victim than he would consider himself. (poetic injustice).

HI David. Here is a dilemma: I invented him as both a mason and a mayor (is that possible); it seems rather logical to me, but not sure of the protocol. If he is both, his wardrobe must be sizeable. Either aspiration fits his type I reckon. Your assessment of stagnation is spot on IMO. But they wouldn't know that would they?

Thanks Martin. I laboured over details- I love the idea of semi dressing, as there is something faintly ridiculous in it, a sort of intrusion of honesty into a farce.

Cheers Suki. Glad you enjoyed that line, which was like a big interruption in the thought pattern. I know quite a few masons (a la family)and have found them pretty much self seeking with a soupcon of hypocrisy thrown in . I have tried a bit of amdram, and I know it can inflate the ego betimes.

Thanks additionally Col and Pat for the likes.

Love to all. Ray

Definitely a feel good poem John, Who could resist the hot flush of a proper steam loco, with those wide spaces! Also the line was used for the Railway Children. To think those A4s used to work out of Kings Cross on the long hauls!

I enjoyed the trip thanks. Ray
