a great sign-off.

Keith - I am not religious in the "man made" sense of the word, but my own favourite for belief in something beyond
this mortal coil is the reality behind a TV signal.
Its presence can't be felt but with the right receptive
equipment, the picture and sound appear. Eureka!
Maybe that is a pointer for a future existence - far removed from the limitations of this life, with its
step by step advances as we grow "wiser" with the
passing of time...towards who knows what?
Also, the memoirs of Air Marshal Sir Victor Goddard - man
of action with a strong belief in the spiritual world - provide compelling evidence of "something more".
Well worth a look if I haven't mentioned him before in
another context.
Thanks.
Don - thanks too for the comment.

I enjoy the way that you place emphasis on the mundane facts of life as a prelude to something else. By the way I frequently dance with strangers as it is such fun. Thanks for this

MC.,
A good poem which assures us of eternal life but I doubt the theology behind it. It is of course a controversial subject. We have no firm knowledge to support the claim of a hereafter but scripture is full of solid examples, especially the gospels where Christ says to his disciples that he goes to prepare a place for them and that they will be there with him. I believe this, not that it provides me with any comfort, rather it makes sense of life and there being something else which is greater than ourselves and we form a part of a divine plan and not simply abandoned at the point of death.
Well written. Thanks
Keith

Ferris, your met
I've not heard before
Did you go buy at
A metronome store?
It sounds a bit wonky
Bleh bluh and blow
Like sounds emanating
From back-end of cow
I could go on, Ferris
Like meaningless twit
But need to leave space
For my Becky Who bit?

Thank you all so much for all the nice comments, I really appreciate it.
Ferris, it wasn't just grades - this particular student in question just had their plans to study abroad all next year taken away, somewhat unexpectedly. But I deliberately made it ambiguous so it could apply to a lot of situations. I'm glad you read it like that - someone else I showed it to asked me if the student concerned had taken his life...

A poem I wrote, more of a rant I guess, in college.
Safe to say during our younger years,
we often come across people
we feel we owe to keep around,
even when they would rather
just constantly sleep around.
So upon one college afternoon, when They pushed me too far, and i cut the ties, I also wrote a rant. Enjoy my little teenage angst poem about what you believe is love, until you find someone who truly cares and flips your world around in every single good way imaginable ?

Education...ah, there is a controversial word!
It can mean so much, yet be used to so little effect when
it sees its owners adopt the trite and the disposable
to offer to the less fortunate (and less able) the example
they need in life to aspire to better things for themselves
and those they cherish.
"Specialist" is a word much in vogue nowadays, and, in
fairness, there is a place for it in an increasingly complex
human existence, so, perhaps, after a proper grounding in
the essential basics (literacy, numeracy and common
sense allied to perception), this is to be encouraged for the
betterment of all. For my part, I want someone who has that extra know-how to solve a "special" problem for me.
I neither want nor need an enthusiastic amateur, however
well-meaning or well-paid!
Education is relevant in so many vital ways, but it HAS
to be especially relevant to our own value to this world
and its varied occupants - who should, in quid pro quo fashion, be able to offer the same in return.

Glad you like this Big Sal, welcome aboard !
Thank you Anya my pleasure.
Thanks Graham : I think you have to re-establish closeness from time to time - we try lend freshness, not always easy of course. As we get older, we can see the dissolution of the ones who do "go over." What more can we do? I felt the last line was a sort of closure, thanks.
Well that's nice Darren - really makes a nice footnote to a poem!
Gotcha Col. Appreciated.
Bring it on Martin - we mustn't be self conscious - the world needs love!

Aw thankyou ? I'm glad I give you new stuff to read often enough?
I do, they're all saved on to my pc and my USB, and alternatively on my WordPress blog as well as here. That way I have 3 back up life lines, and at least on here I get feedback to improve, edit out errors etc before I pit it forward into my anthology folder?
By the end of this year I aim to have enough pieces to create an anthology and start sending it out to poetry anthology publishers on hopes one see' s the potential in me and take me on haha?

i have entered one all year and that is the Bare Fiction prize because I got accepted for a free entry. A lot of the entry fees tend to be 5-10 even 15 pounds. for someone who regularly has far less than this in the bank account in general, this just isnt viable to me.
i do question how vital the exposure really is. perhaps its important in one route but i think there are other routes available. i'm bringing my second collection out next year and have never won a poetry prize in my life.
not sure of my overall point but since i combine poverty and poetry quite deftly i felt my opinion was relevant.

No biggie.
I have books that I've written and then read over 10 times and still have found mistakes in unlikely places. I guess it's easier to notice in someone else's work because I'm not worrying about my own voice saying what was written. Either way, looking forward to more poems put from your way.

Even if you don't win, it is worth it to enter as many poetry competitions as you can afford if you really want to get noticed. The publicity cannot be understated in the slightest, and as poets we can and should use every single aid at our disposal to ensure our work is read by as many poetry readers and lovers everywhere. As long as it's not like buying a damn concert ticket every time, the entry should not be a problem for most. The only thing of note I'd have to say is that the judges may lean more towards a poet if they recognize their name, much like undecided voters do in the US when voting locally for county commissioner, and that can be a problem for unknown talents as long as they aren't noticed.
