Escape velocity

Escape velocity

What more do we need?

We have the full set NOW -

toys, games, lamps, motors,

cards and electronic rooftops

and battery driven ear-pluckers,

navel-dusters and gadgets

to clean the things we need no gadgets for,

unless we have the things and the gadgets

we need for the things that need cleaning

With the other gadgets.

Just in the same way that we need

Money to get the money we use to get

more money to get more money

to go more faster, ever and ever

fasterer and fasterer to spin dervishly

whirling out our worldigig

world is our world

maniac at the wheel,

foot on the floor, hand on the throttle.

Choking the weak,

worlding away into the dark,

the dark down between the stars, the dark empty,

With our final blaze, the one spark

dwindling …

Like a penny banger down a mineshaft;

when we’ve whirled

till the world

                Lets

                                         Go. . . . .

Thank You people. I wrote this some time ago but nothing happened then - either.
The interesting thing is that nobody ever suggests that filling the oceans with plastic and using up the resources of the planet is a GOOD THING - they just go ahead letting it happen.
You can't blame the poor sods on the bread line, all they want is a decent living. The problem is the bastards who want the whole world for themselves and are quite happy to steal it and will kill anybody who gets in their way.

This is so true and wickedly written:

unless we have the things and the gadgets

we need for the things that need cleaning

With the other gadgets.

lol

We want...We NEED...We want some more...so we can need ever more...For a culture so bloated on consumption, we sure are underfed on morals and values.

I have been reading an article about the Amish this weekend which puts me in mind of antidote to such behaviour to constantly consume.
Love the poem Alan

Consumerism.
We need more. Eat more. Spend more. And still we want more.
Are we any happier?
And at what cost? " We choke the weak". Our cheap £1 t-shirt made in Bangladesh by an 8 year old.
Were like locust. An infection. Eating away the planet.
We will burn out. But so will the planet unless we change our ways.

This is what your poem made me think about.

It made me think.

Love your work Mr Braddock.

A nightmare of the search for a reason. A bit like the old testament, Sheboah begat Ezkarah, begat Noah, etc etc. I like the concept of a worldigig!

Great flow Alan to describe a mad pursuit.
