You'll do fine.
Very emotive of regretful repose wrapped in the juxtaposition of a one-sided conversation.
Good first post, and good luck on the rest of your poetry.?

You have some reflective and emotional pieces here. Good writing starts in the emotions and works its way outward. You also have some great potential, so don't be afraid to use it every chance you get.?

The rapper Sadistik also does a magnificent rendition of angels and their manifestations. Words applied differently to the same monster still paint a different scene. Good poem to bleed these thoughts out onto.?

A lot of times my wife tries too hard to be everywhere at once and be everybody's shoulder, but when it goes downhill I have to remind her she's not out to win friends or please everybody all the time - she is out to be the best version of herself.
Self-confidence can be unlearned if not properly applied in heaping doses. We have to want to do better before it will happen, and so the conundrum of doing our best and failing happens. Don't be too hard on yourself, and whatever you do, keep writing.?

Good poem and moot point: Fake people are the worst. Be you and unafraid of what others think. There will always be those that try to talk shit to bring us down, but it's rising above it and writing their asses into oblivion that makes us stronger as people and writers. Keep up the great work.?

Lavender is my favorite color, flower, and smell. Makes a wonderful tea my mom always called 'lucema'. Great poem Jon, I was going to write an anthology called 'My Lavender Rose', and think that the poetry boundaries are quite literally endless when dealing with such beautiful subjects. Unfortunately I wasn't satisfied with the result, so now I do pressed flowers.?

Hey everybody and thanks for reading and all of your lovely comments. Really, I can't possibly blame all of that on my mother--it only made the story run a bit smoother.
Truthfully, the closest thing to fact in the entire piece is the part about me flicking peas across the table (I would do almost anything to get out of eating them)--and, I can't forget, almost twenty years living single. The rest is a sort of emulsion brewed from various comments I've received from people concerned about my persistent single status.
A book or short story would be great but, along with the other flaws with which I seem to be plagued, I also have a somewhat short attention span.
Thanks again..enjoying what's left of a splendidly unproductive weekend here in the States...

A fun take on an old theme. Let me elaborate...
Most men spend their lives
Trying to please a lady,
Mothers, girl-friends or wives
And sometimes someone more shady.
Most women know so -
From tot time to trousseau!

I recall posting a poem on this subject a few years ago, but to summarise -
It's "its" when denoting possession
And it's "it's" when denoting progression (it is).
Even now many folk misuse the term(s), which may be
understandable in a moment of keyboard finger-slip or failure to proof-read before posting.
