I suspect that Big Sal makes a reference to yours truly about "preach" and "practice". We all have a right to a point of view but also a responsibility to those who share this online platform we are so fortunate to use.
If I put in writing on WOL something which attracts adverse
comment, then my respect for other users of this site demands
I approach such comments via the use of explanation/ humour
and compromise where relevant. It is pointless taking a non- negotiable position and becoming "precious"/ protective about
one's work and seeing it as above reproach, with anything
other than agreement/praise unacceptable. An old saying goes:
sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt
me. Not a bad stance for putting one's own before an online
global audience with very different ways of seeing things.
Good luck.

MC and Don both know where I stand.

They both shouldn't be provoking others and then I won't talk shit back towards them.

I apologize if you were roped into this at all Lisa, or felt the need to respond. I also apologize for myself continuously involving you in it in any way.

The best thing to do is walk away. Yet I am hoping one of those two reads this, because if they keep it up there will be hell to pay.

I only speak up when someone diminishes my work or someone else's work. If they don't talk any more shit, then I won't either.

But they have to be willing to be the bigger men too, because I refuse to stand for any more of their bullshit.

As for all your distress, please don't take it to heart Lisa. I'm an asshole just telling other assholes what I think of them. I won’t be around for much longer anyways so don’t have to worry.?

A few years ago a lady from a couple towns over near here drove her SUV full of her kids and nephews/nieces off a cliff trying to kill everyone. Only like 2 of the children survived, and the fact that they knew their aunt tried to take them out would then live with them for the remainder of their lives.

I only hope they got the help they needed.

First off, thanks for liking: Big Sal, Jon and Lisa.

I found this hard to write, but also the subject is full of pitfalls for a poem. I don't pretend any special knowledge of the subject, which in a way speaks for itself thanks to the survivors who were interviewed and followed in their last years; difficult viewing.

I hoped to hit the right note, and at least give a few readers on Holocaust Day a window of comment, and I am grateful indeed for those in return.

Dave, that really grates on me; I would be wary of your neighbour if this is his belief. The Knights Templar are a shadow of their former selves surely, and perform in relative security and privilege. Not to be trusted in my book. Thanks for pointing it out.

David, in a simple and perceptive way , you have explained my efforts and aims. thanks for that.

Thank you Phil. The guilt you rightfully mention which I didn't really although the "pointless ache" was part of that. If Zionism is to be accepted, then we in a quandary, for there lies more strife.

David , you make salient points about voyeurism , cinema itself has that fascination often enough, perhaps also TV; are we to be constantly weaned on it. Apparently so. Your link was quite riveting and stylish. Low key lighting helps the effect too. Thanks for that.

It's fair to say I think that the high churches rely largely on the middle classes to carry the banner these days. I noticed choristers are all from educated families. Not a criticism , but one can sense the separation from the poor in such ways . The frustrations of poverty must be closer to violence.

Mark, agreed about Hitchcock who I'm sure had more than enough voyeuristic tendencies himself. That's why he was good at the art. Note the spyhole in Norman's painting !

I can't honestly get involved in considerations of John Wayne, except to say that he seemed to me a pastiche figure who served the purposes of the studios. You and David have explored him more effectively than I could. I don't think that the reality of killing can ever be adequately portrayed on the screen dramas, though a seeming detachment of emotion might come close to it, as perhaps a sort of psychosis might be necessary in the act.
But I don't really know. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks all for liking: Big Sal, Dave and Anya(welcome back).

Big Sal - when I commented on one of your earliest entries I got a
more measured reply than is the case now. Get off your high horse
and stop assuming the position that you're on some sort of crusade
against right-wingers(?), old(?) white(?) rhymers(?) who are bent
on your destruction...as if! What is written and placed on this site is
open to interpretation & valuation and if comment is forthcoming then
a rational reply is surely the best response, not a diatribe of disdain
intended to defame the critic's motives or mental/physical characteristics. .

LD - don't get downhearted because of perceived negativity
Any work of whatever sort placed before the wider world will obtain
opinions as to its message, meaning or essential worth/value to the
reader. This sort of site is a place for poetry that stands on its own for the attentions and comments of others, welcome or otherwise.
Personal subjects can connect and have their value accordingly - so
do not be discouraged from posting your work and think of it from
the eyes and mind of someone who finds a kindred spirit in you.
