Difference and the human spirit for competition is the reason why we as a species have prospered so much and have murdered so much.

@MortimerBlooming Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And agreed. I am going through a waking up phase of my life. It is as if I never acknowledged who I am. And now I have started the journey to my true self. It is a difficult path. But would have never been possible without calming and slowing down.

Thank you Jennifer. Housing (lack of) and homelessness are terrible problems in the UK. Rip-off landlords love the scarcity of housing, all they want is money. Poor people can so easily lose the tiny bit of security they've managed to find.
“Bleak, dark, and piercing cold, it was a night for the well-housed and fed to draw round the bright fire, and thank God they were at home; and for the homeless starving wretch to lay him down and die. Many hunger-worn outcasts close their eyes in our bare streets at such times, who, let their crimes have been what they may, can hardly open them in a more bitter world.”
― Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist

You’re not suggesting for one minute, MC, that he bravely strode through antagonistic crowds with his head held high, are you? Rather than that security services routed a peaceful protest so that he could pose for a selected audience in front of that church?
Or that they turned the lights off in the White House to save the lecky while he completed his brief inspection of his secure bunker?

It always tickles me to hear a woman publicly call out another woman as a "whore". It"s nice to have proof that sexism doesn't require input from men--women are doing a fine job of perpetuating it all on their own.

I must admit I do chuckle to myself when I write some of these and - as Graham mentioned, the penultimate verse just came to me and sums him up in a few words.
If he didn't exist MC there would be plenty of other underqualified, overpowered leaders and public figures to have a pop at - my work is not yet done ?
thanx all ?

Hi JC - in your blog "Hideaway", you refer to "George Lloyd" when
you meant "George Floyd". I actually knew the real George Lloyd -a
disgracefully neglected British composer who lived near me in the
years prior to his death.

JC - I realise you may not hold the man in high regard. However,
knowing the number of presidents killed in office or subjected to attempts to do the deed, Trump still took a very public walk that
evening after the disturbances in Washington DC. Not the sign of a man hiding away.

the world may not always respond as we would wish - and then we

Funny how basic reality can be contained in a few pithy words. This
view has the ring of truth that can chime faintly under the shouting.
The wider social adjustments that are so necessary sometimes get
forgotten/put aside/neglected when the mayhem begins and a
crowd of protesters can evolve into a baying mob that rejects reason.

It is true that the Bible has been misused many times before, but rarely by someone who looked so awkward doing it, upside down at one point! No I don't think, "Kim Jong Don'," has handled many books before, he looks like a big confused, angry toddler presenting his first ever colouring in book and saying, "Do you love me now Daddy?"

Problems of this sort are rarely new. Shakespeare raised the issue
of his age when asking questions about "pricking and bleeding" in
The Merchant of Venice. We can only do what we can to keep the
beacon of tolerance and mutual regard alight in our own lives and in
our own age.

Trump that! But the thought occurs....what would happen without
the Donald to aim at? He is clearly the bogeyman for many but it
will be interesting to see how the coming US election pans out.
In the meantime, certain online media outlets rarely pass up the
opportunity - existing or invented - to have a pop at him. Check
the usual US suspects; The Washington Post; The New York Times and the kingmakers in the big media news organisations there.
We live in interesting times. Has anyone heard from, the leader of
North Korea recently? ?

How about leaving "the truth" to be established via proper enquiry in
the appropriate forum established for that purpose? Political
demagoguery and media demonisation have no place in enabling
the process of cool and dispassionate assessment to determine motive and/or guilt. Assumption is no basis for judgement.
