I love this one Keith. I really like your reminiscing poems a lot, the Teddy bear one was another gem. Time is such a strange thing and glancing in either direction is always incredibly emotive.

I’ve always felt this is simply historical Denial and shows a lack of maturity in accepting what we once were. What next? Tear down Boudicca and her Daughters for the slaughter at Londinium, Verulamium and Camulodunum? Nelson, for the killing of Neapolitan prisoners of war? Likewise, Henry V? What about banning Kipling? Twain!
Denial.

Very good piece Ian, though I don't believe the slave traders were racists in the same way as we are nowadays. I think they were completely unscrupulous international traders who saw Africans as an easy way of making money.
Anyway, what next...Viking memorabilia in York?

This poem is beautiful. A quest for escapism impelled by Ahuza, a being trans-terrestial.
I love the consistency in the rhyme.

Touchdowns - thanks MC - your take, I always find to be an interesting one. Wasn't sure how this one might be interpreted but most of us now live in a cosmopolitan world free of radical undercurrents and I can remember having a Malaysian pen friend years ago when such things were the lingua franca of the times.?

On occasions when I was the station officer, mounted branch officers
would visit the station yard and I would stop by for an admiring
chat, with some trepidation at the sheer size of their mounts.
The trick I soon acquired was to move along - front to rear - letting
the horse know I was there by trailing a hand along its flank as I went
- a way of ensuring that no sudden harm came to delicate parts. A
sort of equine foreplay that seemed somehow natural. Never thought
to wonder why - until now ! ?

JC - I agree that it would seem so. However, the actual application
of handcuffs is not always easy, not least due to the behaviour of
the person under restraint. A large powerful man with adrenaline at work can defeat efforts by a number of people. That said, the tragedy that unfolded in the case of George Floyd requires diligent
enquiry to determine the how and why of the grievous outcome.

I accept totally the need for law enforcers to use the appropriate force to deal with miscreants. In Floyd’s case it was fatally exceeded when the obvious alternative of cuffs could have been used.

Thanks for the heads-up about George Lloyd/Floyd. The name somehow got scrambled in my head sometime between “A Black Life Doesn’t Matter Any More” (where I got it right) and “Hideaway (where I didn’t). The confusion should have been obvious to me when I made the audio - it needed a few takes because I kept involuntarily singing “Lloyd George”. Age, eh?
