As someone said, the History Channel is broadcasting live. Ukraine's leader is an example to Boris Johnson, a comedian who actually knows how to behave and to lead.

Occasionally I have dreams where I am taken into conflict situations which I experienced whilst a soldier in the past, although they are less frequent these days. When I wake I am depressed and irritable and make a determined effort to eradicate such memories. For some these memories have a more intense effect which leaves a mental scar that never heals (PTSD). Your poem brought this to mind. War is futile. Utterly incomprehensible.
Thank you for this
Keith

MC thank you for your like. Ghazala thank you for your kind comment. Kevin, you understand me perfectly. When I wrote this poem I thought of Count Von Stauffenberg who attempted to kill Hitler in the hope of changing the direction of the war at that time. Any form of fighting involves death and suffering. My aim is to go for the top clique and eliminate them. Or perhaps ask them to do the fighting and let the people be bystanders. Kevin, as you say there are no winners, only losers.
Thankyou
Keith

My heart goes out to the innocent people wrapped up in a war that they never asked for.
There are never winners in war, only loosers.
From what I understand of this piece, you are saying that fighting back against the troops on the ground has little affect.
And that the only way to win is to strike at the leadership.

If I've understood you correctly, then I'm in total agreement.

I'm a Chelsea supporter, Mike, and take some comfort from Abramovich's daughter expressing opposition to Putin. But whatever happens to my club, football's not more important than life and death, and fascism, which must be defeated. The only victory that really matters.

Thanks for your comment, Steve. A poem written in my head on the way home from the pub, although I'm sure you couldn't tell ... and for the Likes, JC and Julie. But I found the story of the island soldiers obstinately defending a tiny piece of rock intensely moving ... the kind of bravery that Putin hasn't bargained for.

You know John, the invasion of Ukraine has deeply saddened me as well. I can only pray that the fighting stops soon. I fear that if it doesn't, the world will have to make some hard choices, and the suffering will continue.

Like all ideas, the idea of freedom is in itself indestructible. It
can never be defeated. No invading army has ever subdued or
extinguished it in the long term. The Russian military have had
to face that fact before and will face it again despite the aggressive obsessions of the man in the Kremlin and his servile cronies in power at, present.

Fascinating and inspiring. We should realise how important words are when invaders are described as 'peacekeepers' and some incarnation of the Ministry of Truth spouts out lies every day.
