We woke to the terrifying news 
as our worst fears came true today 
We watch in horror and disbelief 
and together for Ukraine we pray

How do you negotiate with one 
who is hell bent on having his way 
Discussions provide no solutions
no matter what world leaders may say 

There’s no point trying to understand 
what is going on inside his mind
If we could ask a million questions 
I’m sure there’s no answer we would find 

As we emerge from the pandemic
we plunge straight into the darkest day
Yesterday, Covid was our worst enemy 
Russia took it’s place today 

We wonder how has it come to this 
as the news develops through the day
