Thanks Jennifer; nice to see a new contributor! I'm glad you liked my unusual poem - I wasn't very confident with it, but it seemed to satisfy my warped humour. Interesting how Poe wrote poetry with a certain flavour. David often makes penetrating comments based on his own experiences of life and I do feel there is a validity to it but thanks for making the observation.

HI folks. This idea came about due to my son's daughter just going to university - they are on their own and came over bringing their angst with them! Palpable really.

It's good of you to comment David in view of what you say and a compliment of course. As for Garden centres, I seem to have touched a nerve - I find them mind blowingly nondescript and samey. I feel sorry for myself at all times on entering.

It wasn't quite the vibe I was aiming at, but you make a strong case for a possible heart attack. As for alzheimers, some older friends of ours just emigrated saying it was "an adventure before dementia."

Isn't Jeremy aging Suki - have you noticed? State of mind is key in preventing age, so you make a fine point. I think room 101 for garden centres everybody.

Thanks Cynthia. ? its not to be taken literally at all but in all honesty I was trying really hard not to laugh out loud in the dead of night when I wrote it.

I was just expressing frustration with a few friendships/situations. I'm not even in a relationship ?

Many thanks Suki and Wolfgar. I still listen to the music of Joy Division now and Peter Hook with The Light still performs all their songs on tour. Ian couldn’t take the epilepsy thing anymore, and with the medication and everything else I think maybe he just decided to bow out. I will get Debbie’s book thank you. Did you both see the movie ‘Control’ with Samantha Morton? Really good. Ian was a poet really some of the words to his songs were and still are beautiful. Fred

For someone who is not a fan of Trump, your post does come across as a defence of the fool. No point talking about HC now is there? And also, this isn't about her, it's about him. Sorry to state the bleedin' obvious but I didn't think I'd have to. Lots of lines and phrases in here are taken straight from the idiot's mouth. I've just put them into this order.

First thing, most importantly, I hope you are keeping well.

Let's remember, presidents aren't elected, they're chosen. Sorry if I sound cynical.

I'm no fan of Trump, but Hillary, unlike Trump, supported the Invasion of Iraq, and was a significant player in the invasion of Libya, bombed that country into the Stone Age and left at least 300,000 dead. Bernie Sanders should have been the Democratic candidate, but it wasn't to be, because of the shenanigans of Hitlery's criminal fraternity at the DNC.

One thing I will say in Trump's defence: he didn't sign TAFTA/NAFTA - an economic agreement that would have provided corporations the legal instruments to sue elected governments. Hillary would have signed that, I imagine.

Trump could well end up also being a war-monger too. Let's see what his puppet masters tell him.

All mainstream media is fake isn't it? Some prefer CNN, others Fox, others BBC.They are all full of it. I for one am not falling for the bait-and-switch: Bush, Obama, and probably Trump will all leave behind similar legacies, and plenty of carnage. I hope I'm wrong.

Poor guy had epilepsy, and it seems it was the medication prescribed that did him in..

Yeh I know what you mean about him being too easy a target, but I feel we have to document it for a later date, cos people just wouldn't believe how bad he actually was otherwise! Absolutely - he does require ridicule. I am beyond astonished that people actually support him, despite everything that he's said and done. My eyebrows now live on the back of my neck because of him.

I have to genuinely force myself to watch him speak on the telly, grinding my teeth, he winds me up that much. There were another 5 haiku to this but I cut them out - could rant all bloody day!

Hehe. Yeh but what a party it would be on that day eh? ?

Thank you for your comments. I enjoyed reading them, as indeed I find that writing and reading sonnets (and other forms such as the Petrarchan sonnet, and Dante's "terza rima" tercet) ultimately more satisfying than alternatives such as blank verse.

I do think you have captured a great deal of the essence I sought to convey in this poem, although of course each person will have their own set of understandings.

I wrote this with a sense of humility, and I wrote it both for myself and for others. I too believe in 'Hope' as the balm - of a simple life.

yep anger in there for sure, not nearly as much umph as when i did preform beacuse i am wary of how it sounds when recorded on a phone.

congratulations on the sonnet form of this, It makes
the points made clearer.

I like the clear abruptness of those first two lines , which then proceed a (warningly?) through the experiences of our own `private` rooms, the ends in a kind of misty world.

The form enables the power of that;
`Be wary of the `Fire ` of triumphs won`

(as it raises the plane of the whole poem)...It`s a gift from the past,

(as someone nearer the door now, I am personally very grateful for the presence of that word `Hope` between
Faith and Charity.) .
