A sad and touching story of being "stuck" in life. Dark feelings well-captured.

Very fine poem. Nice pacing and word choice. "Cadillac with Kerouac" is a great internal rhyme.

A poem that stands alone and expresses a reality with a poetic sureness . I love the Hoovers and souls lines particularly but there is some grim humour throughout. Curiously, Hull is another town of the east that has attracted the city of culture stamp of approval, Grimsby can't quite claim that. Life clings on. The whole poem seems a bit fishy to me.
Brilliant stuff David.

Binte, I will try to catch up with more of your work in this coming year. Chemo has limited a lot of my energy, but not all. That is a lovely picture of you. I get the vibes of a passionate woman with both grit and empathy; your eyes are strong and your mouth is soft; IMO, an excellent combination.
And I, too, like to read books from all cultures, both current and past, as a citizen of The World. But, apart from French which has lapsed terribly, I have to trust translations. I've always considered this to be a definite weakness. But, still, I make the effort.
As for genres, I absolutely hate 'spy stories of international intrigue'. I don't deny their truth (up to a point) but I refuse to sully my mind with their inherent viciousness. I choose to be ignorant of that venue of power.
And I have no clue whether that is a good thing or not.

Very compelling Alexandra. One can see the influence of SP.
Try and write through someone else's gaze. Apart from meeting TH, that was one of Plath's tragedies. Most of her poems are written from within her own gaze.
Art is essentially the lives of others.
Do what Goya did two hundred years ago - say something about art and life, about love and death.
Again - a real craft for language. A superb eye for editing your own work.
Write as though there is no horizon.
Good wishes,
Alan Pascoe

Thanks Kate. I always wonder what the models think of the finished paintings. Victorine Meurant was the model for this (as well as a lot of others including the - at the time - notorious 'Modern Olympia'.). And she also was a painter.
I gave her a cockney accent, which was perhaps unfair because I think she was quite a sophisticated lady.

You have 40 degrees of Christmas sun
And cars driven by a pup
I'd almost think, you've got it all
Till I think of the fizz that you sup
Vegimite or marmite
We prob'ly won that one too
But I know we beat you hands down
With good old English brew
