Preamble

Please excuse my use of this language

but it is the language used by these sort of people

We're messing up the planet

With all our human muck

It makes me angry when you say

I just don't give a fuck

Just toss that plastic bottle

The one that you just sucked

It makes me angry when you say

So what? Just go get fucked

Hey come on lazy litterer

I'm trying to do my bit

It makes me angry when you say

I just don't give a shit

You think I'm making all this up?

You think I'm just a toff?

It makes me angry when you say

Get lost, just bugger off

Climate change you scoff at

Scientists say it's true

It makes me angry when you say

They haven't got a clue

It seems to me you don't care

'Bout the environment

It makes me angry when you say

Get lost, I am content

Brian - you are correct. We all have some impact on our environment. And yes, behaviours can be changed. And yes, fashion and what is 'cool/uncool' can be used to bring about desirable changes.

MC - I'm embarrassed. Gotta go clean the detritus from my car floor. No butts or tissues though ?

Your Suggestion that potty training/lack of could be a precurser to this attitude is an interesting and serious one one could explore

Definitely rant material, and I heartily concur. We still live in a throw-away society unfortunately. And that applies to both resources and people.

Good rhyming used to good effect for a worthwhile subject.
Potty training (lack of) is probably the precursor to this sort of
throwaway behaviour that basically sends a message that someone
else can clear up the mess. It's not hard to imagine the sort of
squalor such people endure in their domestic lives! Their cars are
probably a good guide...dirty and full of empty containers of various
types, discarded fag ends and used tissues.

You're right to make reference to 'we' Don because it is we, all of us to some degree, who have an impact on the environment...so it is up to all of us to try to minimise the impact and to try to influence others to do the same. And behaviours can be changed...look at the dramatic fall in single use plastic carrier bags in the UK. On the other hand, people are influenced by fashion and what is 'cool'...hence folk can't walk along the street anymore without clutching a takeaway coffee in a disposable plastic cup.
