I really like this, and the "she" that you speak of really resonates for some of us. I tried to put my "he" in a box, but that didn't work out well for either of us, so instead "we" coexist.
One foot in order, one foot in chaos, balanced on the fulcrum.
Love the style and rhythm of it. ?

That scene in Times Square, New York
must have been akin to that of V.E. day in London.
Are we going to have similar scenes after Brexit ? !

dk us Ladies Union
You've neglected in your verse
What of our lovely pussies
With gentle paws, smooth furs?
They also give us pause
To restlessness, yes when
When they put to us, yes when
Their softness they extend
So don't forget our pussies
In any verse dk (future)
Or else our Ladies Union
Will come down hard, not suit yer
meow....?

Spot on!
Better to stop a while and smile
Than go to town with a frown! ?
Or - as a poet of yesteryear perceptively observed:(give or take 100% recall)
Laugh and the world laughs with you
Cry and you cry alone
For this sorry old world has troubles enough
And needs none of your own.

Poets wanting laughter
Come knock on Centre door
Of WOL's new Rest and Recoup place
With nymphs lying on floor
If you've expired from doom and gloom
Just keep eyes glued to screen
For future laughter coming up
In programme to be seen
As Jon points out it's all for free
Contagious as all hell
Keith's all up for ten sacks
Who wants some more as well?
MC, dk Po et al?
Come poets one and all
Half-expired or fully dead
Laughter's free for all
But Jon has truly warned us
Of dangers to our WOL
Could run amok, rampant, unchecked
(And we wouldn't want that to happen...)
Would we? ?

I very recently heard the statistic that one in four Americans believe that Jesus will return in their lifetime. I'm no fan of statistics (check Benjamin Disraeli, or Mark Twain? on the subject) but the prevalence of such self-centered thinking wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Who wants to see the wizard behind the curtains after travelling the yellow brick road so faithfully?
Rachel
PS
..was feeling unusually talkative last night but forgot to say that I appreciate the way certain poems get around to a point without spelling things out or telling the reader how to think or feel. It gives us lots of freedom to expand--that's the quality that drew me into this.

Rachel - I think that this instance - from a moment of massive relief
and joy - will not have had any deleterious effect on the participants.
Think of movie stars whose presence in their widely witnessed
work share all sorts of perceived "moments" and "insights" into
their lives and rarely suffer from any problems - unless that includes
the fear of later obscurity. Some retire from the job and decide on
other work - which may also be a factor - but rarely, I think.

A gloriously affectionate moment among many shared that day, no doubt.
I often think of how the subjects of such iconic photos must feel. I mean, it must play psychological tricks on the mind when personal moments become fixation and property of the general population--just a thought.
But, the power of that photo to dredge up so much emotion--that's a real credit to photography and the timelessness of our humanity.
Rachel

Ken,
This poem is a solemn reminder that the evils of the past are only just beneath the surface of today. It is also worrying that despite the horrors of the past people can still contmeplate a repeat of such prejudice and hatred. The last two lines of your poem is where the only answer lies.
Thank you indeed for this

John,
Welcome to WoL. Your poems and this one in particular speak of a person who is observant and thoughtful about the surroundings in which you live. You write and perform well. Accents are part of our identity and need not be apologised for. I look forward to reading and hearing more of your work.
Thanks for this

As the owner of two rescue dogs and the owner of many dogs over the years this poem certainly rings true. Dogs are true companions and can teach us a lot about ourselves. They can also help us to be less selfish.
