Mirror Mirror

(Written after watching about 25 people walk past, glued to their smartphones and brought to a fitting crescendo when two young ladies stopped to do a, "Pouting selfie," then walk on, face glued to phone.)

Mirror mirror in my hand, who's the fairest in the land?

Who has the most shapely hips, the largest bum, plumpest lips?

For the sake of sanity, feed my hungry vanity,

Confirm to me, we all agree, the answer to my question's me.

Oh smart little mirror, it has to be, we'll airbrush all impurity,

I do not want the world to see, me in my reality,

Tell me what I have to share, show me all the others there,

Make them love me, make them care, make them want to stop and stare.

Let me know all that you know, map the route I have to go,

Oh mirror mirror make it so, let your information flow,

And if there's one with skin like snow, who gets more shares and likes than me,

I'll send a poisoned apple so, she's damned for all eternity.

Oh mirror mirror in my hand, sooth my insecurity,

Make me known across the land for my flawless purity,

And I will love you as my own, and look forever through your lense,

Physically I'll stand alone, but digitally have 10,000 friends.

And in this world though hours will pass as minutes through the looking glass,

It is your world which I select for that's where I remain perfect,

10,000 friends I've never met, yet promise that I won't forget,

Will "love" my smile and "like" my ass, as I step through the looking glass.

Mirror mirror be my friend, and never let our friendship end,

Make me perfect, make them see, how perfect I am digitally,

Let them never see the truth, hold me in perpetual youth,

Mirror mirror heed my call, make me fairest of them all.

Jason

It would have pleased you greatly writing this. As you imply, it simply fell out by itself. I get pleasure writing and reading my rhyming work.

I got great pleasure reading yours. There are so many good lines here:

"Physically I'll stand alone, but digitally have 10,000 friends."

Gosh, every line is good.....

As a rhymer, I feel you have excelled your self here. Well done.

Bloody hell Narcissus is alive and well. Oh how our mirror-obsessed society needs to see this poetic message, but I doubt it would register unless written in modern hieroglyphics! ❤

Entertaining - with some good lines & truths about self-delusion.
Cyberworld, let me believe,
Ere Father Time drops by to thieve!
The make-believe I would prefer
If only living would concur !
