Great poem! No-one else has ever has such a sensual voice as Elvis, not even Sinatra or Bublè.

Nice one Keith! How true that one must read to write. I have always been fascinated by the power of words, (I don't mean the stuff I write!) You can start or end a war, kill a person, ruin their career or reputation, change the destiny of a whole nation etc. etc. I was taught to read by my Mum when I was four and a half, and I can still remember (or think I can), the joy of realising I could read whole sentences after days of C A T = cat. Being indolent, your gym is too demanding for me, but you definitely get results.

So true Keith. I do try and write everyday and although I do edit my words because I'm a dyslexic and I occasionally miss things out that are meant to be there, I try not to edit my thoughts.

Liked this - agree with Jason about the metaphor of the rose. One could say we often pay a price for love, which could be the thorn side of joy.

You're probably right, it's both. Though the dreamer that I am I'd like to think of it more as an expensive a seed to buy, hard to plant, once in a blue moon prickly a bud to blossom but priceless when it does! Or maybe it's something as random, rare and ordinary, but tasty and worth it all if handled properly, as an artichoke! Exactly like us! ?
Thank you Jason?

Lovely metaphor Mae, the thorn does grow on the stem of a rose. I wonder if that makes it a pretty thorn bush, or a dangerous rose bush?
Probably both, just like us?.

Hey Cynth, long time no see. If this is true, which I suspect it is, then I am very glad indeed you got to ring that bell. The older I get, the more people I know who do this, and some who sadly don't.

Great poem, life-affirming. Literally.

Don't you just love it when they mutter through that face mask that
looms over your staring eyes. You do your best to understand
what is being said, straining every faculty to accommodate their
words - only to realise that they are directed to their assistant
lurking out of sight just behind your other shoulder!?

Thanks guys! I appreciate you reading and sharing your insightful thoughts. Jason, I have to remind myself too! Don, sometimes I spend as much time finding a song as I spend writing the poem, which is fun for me as I love music almost as much as poetry. I'm glad it flowed this time! Love that Ginsberg quote Keith. Yes, poetry is an outlet for all my emotions too. Poetry is my magic carpet ride through life! ?

d.k.,

This is a poem from the mind and why not? We are all, whether we like it not, rememberancers. The past is like a celluloid reel inside our head and at will we can replay the past and relive it also. To ignore the bad, the mistakes and failures may not be a good thing as it is from those experiences we learn, as opposed to the good memories where we simply wallow in nostalgia. The future, a mystery, is far more exciting.

A well thought out poem
Thanks
Keith

When I had finished reading this poem the words of Allen Ginsberg came to mind, "Poetry is the one place where people can speak their original human mind". For me poetry is an outlet of all that sits within me, from anger and dissent to an appreciation of beauty and all emotions. We often go in search of inspiration when its source lies within us waiting to be given a voice or written with a pen put to paper.

Thank you for this
Keith

Hazel,

What a fascinating poem about the dilema of personal identity. The inability of not being who we really are and acknowledging it can only distort our view of others and their view of ourselves. From experience I have come to realise the easier option is simply to get in touch with the real inner self and project this so that others are under no illusion as to who you are. Then behave accordingly. However, this can readily put you at odds with others which will require courage to deal with. The majority of people wear a mask to conceal their true selves. These masks change due to circumstances. One mask for the family, the other for the employer and so on.

This poem will have us all in modes of self reflection.
Well done
Thanks
Keith

Nathan,

Thank you for a poem which also speaks to us as much as about the poor cat. Complacency or apathy are the drugs of today to tranquilise us. Only by being outside of the box or cage will we experience all the benefits of liberation.

Good poem

Lol a vivid picture of what most of us experience when we're trapped in the dentist chair.
On my last checkup I apologised cos I hadn't brushed my teeth immediately before going in. The dentist laughed. She had one family with kids who all shared one toothbrush. Another patient who only brushed his teeth once a year, the day before he came to see her. Not you by any chance John?

You have to feel sorry for them, in spite of their big fat salaries!
