Don re HTS - always good to get positive feedback - will be heading off to the Spoons later for me daily slurpo as the Aussies might say. Better I make sure there's no Kango poo on the pavement though - wouldn't want to slip up. You never know with my local town what's going on with all the whirring cranes - ever the building site is Woking - you want to take a look at the place - always something to write about here that's for sure or do I mean gripe about. Whatever. Cheers. P ?

Of my own reef
And find it jagged, dangerous.
I have sharp edges of my own."

fallling to the earth
Empty, exhausted, extinguished.
Everything and all
Extinguished.
I've always enjoyed your writing Hazel.
I've been away, going within.
Back now. Hope you are well.

I have followed this commentary with interest. I think you're right Keith. Most people are content/apathetic with the status quo.
However, your statement:
."The Elites are nefarious and know how far they can go. They manipulate within certain boundaries; it is only when they cross the boundaries is there due cause for concern"
of crossing the boundaries, can be the trigger needed for the content/apathetic balance to be changed. e.g when a government/council cross the border the public soon make their voice known.

One can be quite sad
An un-happy sort of state
But still feel quite contented
(Content, at any rate...)
I'm not sure this is right or not. But it makes a 'happy'(?) little rhyme....

To rhymy down such utter crap
No, they're all too lazy
It takes a lotta skill to go
Create this crap, then screen

An utter crap has-been
Wot's that? You mentioned Shakespeare?
He wrote a lot of crap?
You mean he's done all this before?

Best of luck in obtaining some success with this unusual theme, I
was unable to resist adding a bit of humour to the project.
Dear Dylan, I'm in a funk,
It doesn't help that you're a drunk,
But a thought has just occurred...
Why isn't your poetry slurred?

In an article in a newly published local magazine there is the mention
of maintaining eye contact as an important aspect of work involving
service to the public and the lack of success of interviewees
gaining employment because of this simple absence of awareness.
It is a negativity that will surely gain ground as upcoming generations
become increasingly fixated on their PC screens and the basics of
human communication become lost.

Adam, activism and politics in the arts is a centuries old practice, and I don't think you should be shied away from expressing your opinions. That being said, I'm with Leon on this - shout it if you must, and in these times we must. I work with a lot of immigrants, and I must tell you, their American dream is much bigger than the jaded, jaundiced, take it for granted nightmare in which we currently live.

Thank you Don, Keith, MC, Jason and Leon for reading and commenting.
Since this is a poetry and not a politics blog, though my poem is political in inspiration, I guess all I would say is that I stand firm in my belief that we have here (since I can only speak to here) sown the seeds for our own fall from grace and that I wish it were not so.
And action, yes, it is certai nly important to do more than put pen to paper but since that is more my talent than other forms of activism I do put forth more effort there.

Honest thoughts, well expressed. 'Happiness' is basically a pipe dream. Don't worry about it. Attitude is everything, from one small step to the next, in all arenas. You are thinking, and expressinig yourself, and that alone must be a source of genuine 'happiness'. It is always your own, personal definition.

John,
Thank you for this poignant reminder. Yet I wonder if those transgender people in the US Military who are now out of work would share this point of view or those Hispanic Families in detention centres where parents and their children have been forceably separated. The Elites are nefarious and know how far they can go. They manipulate within certain boundaries; it is only when they cross the boundaries is there due cause for concern.
Thank you again,

Nick,
Thank you for this honest declaration in the form of a poem. There are many for whom this poem will resonate, myself included. How many people can say that they have experienced true and abiding love or happiness which was truly exhilerating. Are these conclusions reached by comparing ourselves with others or are we being wholly subjective?
A good poem
Thank you for this
Keith

Graham and Rose,
Thank you for your comments as they are much appreciated. Graham raises a good point in that to overthrow one elite is often to pave the way for another which could possibly be worse. Yet it is in those countries where there is a semblance of democracy that apathy needs to be addressed so that the elecorate can exercise real power and clip the wings of the elite. The present lack of real leadership in most western countries is, in large part, due to apathy. People can overcome these elites by participating more in local and central government rather than let the elites continue with their uninterrupted regimes. The power lies not in violent overthrow but the ballot box.
Thank you again
Keith

Hello all! Thank you all for taking the time to read!
Adam, you are being neither encouraged nor discouraged. When I write "stroke, kiss, caress" etc it's not an imperative form. Perhaps it's misused...
My intent wad to expose a situation. A trap that even the brave ones get caught in sometimes. There's no lesson to be learnt here. Just an ugly situation brought out in the open! Thank you for seeking deeper understanding, never apologize for that!
Jason, that's exactly my point. It happens to everyone. I'm not pointing fingers, as I explained to Adam. If anything it comes from rather an inner dialogue as many of my poems do. And if it's anything it's self-critical. Thank you for the constant support my friend!
Thank you all friends ?
Mae

I like the circularity of the piece, I am a great fan of repetitions, they are very effective. For me there is no ambiguity here, we have a saying where I come from..."nothing bad empty of good". Free translation ?
Anyway the point in, that every journey through hell, is still a journey. It has a destination and challenges and at the end you're alive and a little bit broken but wiser.
That is the feeling I get from that! Great work Adam ?
Mae
