There's one thing about poetry that's for sure,

Whatever the theme, it's been done before;

Except for stuff about modern inventions

(I''ll allow that these provide new mentions),

The stuff of love, hate and the rest

That poets like to get off their chest,

Have featured in poems of the past

Some of which will always last,

Because they skilfully touch the heart

In timeless ways that can impart

That certain something beyond price

Devoid of cliche and artifice,

And speaks to us across the years

About our hopes...our dreams...our fears

So - when you write, know it's for sure:

That what you say has been said before.

"In all brutal honesty": Why am I reminded of that well-known and often used phrase "With respect but..."? ?
I certainly agree that all art is derivative. The secret is not to bore
- with blatant plagiarism at the forefront of perceived creative sin.

I throw my ditties up on screen
Whether read or not
Gonna, sorta, watcha, wot?
My poetry is shot

I'd like to think no previous
Poet's been so crazy
To rhymy down such utter crap
No, they're all too lazy

It takes a lotta skill to go
Create this crap, then screen
I'm sure I won't go down as
An utter crap has-been

Wot's that? You mentioned Shakespeare?
He wrote a lot of crap?
You mean he's done all this before?
(Shit and bloody hell...)

Yep - but we still do it; and this little work is well done. There are always 'the new readers' after all, some who have no source of poetry other than Internet WOL or its like.
